During the October 2019 Pokemon News Release, it was revealed that five Kanto Pokemon will be receiving a Gigantamax Form within Pokemon Sword & Shield! These Pokemon include Charizard, Pikachu, Eevee, Butterfree and Meowth, and the method to gain the ability to Gigantamax them within battles varies.

In order to obtain Gigantamax Pikachu, you must have a Let's Go Pikachu Save File within the Nintendo Switch you're playing Pokemon Sword & Shield on. Gigantamax Pikachu has the G-Max Move known as Volt Crash, which turns all Electric Type Attacks into this move and also has the added benefit of paralyzing the opposing Pokemon. This Pikachu cannot evolve.

Similarly, in order to obtain Gigantamax Eevee, you must have a Let's Go Eevee Save File within the Nintendo Switch you're playing Pokemon Sword & Shield on. Gigantamax Eevee has the G-Max Move known as G-Max Cuddle, which turns all Normal Type Attacks into this move and has the added benefit of infatuating Pokémon of the opposite gender. This Eevee cannot evolve either.

In order to obtain Gigantamax Meowth, all you must do is snag the Wi-Fi Event for it that will run from the release of the games until Early 2020. Gigantamax Meowth has the G-Max Move known as G-Max Gold Rush, which turns all Normal Type Attacks into this move and has the added benefit of scattering coins that increase battle winnings. This Meowth, as well, cannot evolve.

When it comes to Gigantamax Butterfree and Gigantamax Charizard, it appears you will simply need to obtain them in a Max Raid Battle to obtain their given Gigantamax Forms. Gigantamax Butterfree has the G-Max Attack known as G-Max Befuddle, which does damage and has the added benefit of either Poisoning or Paralyzing an opposing Pokemon (as well as the chance to make them fall asleep). Gigantamax Charizard has the G-Max Attack known as G-Max Wildfire, which does major damage and has the added benefit of causing a Fire Spin Effect to linger around an opponent that isn't a Fire Type.
