You’ll encounter predatory animals such as wolves and mountain lions (Bears belong to a league of their own) so we’ll just tackle Tips on How to Defeat them. Freaks and predatory animals don’t get along so if there’s an opportunity, always let them fight to thin out their numbers before going in for the kill.

Become the hunter, not the prey
The Tier III skill Ear to the Ground allows you to see enemies within the immediate vicinity whenever you trigger your Survival Vision. This is particularly useful when dealing against stealthy animals like wolves and cougars, since you’ll be able to see them even when they’re behind cover like rocks or bushes. This is one of the most important skills in the game so learn it as early as possible.

Wolves Hunt in Packs

If you’re attacked by a wolf, always assume that there’s a lot more. Usually, a pack consists of 3-4 wolves but it’s not impossible to encounter packs with 6 or more wolves. You’re vulnerable when harvesting Meat from dead wolves or animals so make sure to look around and keep an eye to your Radar.

Use Fire

While it’s recommended to save your molotov against bigger targets or Nests, you can temporarily drive animals away by throwing a molotov near you or at them. Use that time to reload, heal, or escape since they will come back shortly after.

Go for the Head

Like most enemies in the game, well-placed headshots can instantly kill animals. Activate focus and use powerful Weapons together to get the best results.

Toppling enemies
The tier II Ranged skill, Suppressing Fire increases your weapon’s stopping power against weaker enemies (including smaller animals) when shooting while in Focus. This is especially valuable since your rounds can easily trip and topple charging or running animals.

Go up and personal

Don’t hesitate to swing your melee Weapon wildly if ever you get surrounded by wolves or if they managed to close the distance. Depending on your weapon’s damage rating, you should be able to take down a wolf in 2-3 hits.
