You can use Guns and crossbows to take out enemies from a distance. The effectiveness of these guns will depend on the type and your range from enemies. Shotguns are devastating at close range, repeaters, and submachine guns are great for medium range, rifles are best at long ranges. To increase your accuracy, you have to stay still and aim. When you aim, the reticule will compress. The smaller the reticule gets, the more accurate your shot is. Once you learned focus, you can temporarily activate this ability to slow down time and make more accurate shots.
As you move around, it will be harder to aim and your shots’ accuracy will of course suffer. These can be alleviated by learning the necessary skills in the Ranged skill tree. This will allow you to be more mobile while also remaining accurate. Similar to Melee Combat, you should know when is the right time to stay still or run.
Ranged Combat will be a bit different against humans and freakers. Human enemies are cunning; they’ll call for reinforcements, will use cover, and will attempt to flank you. Freakers in the other hand will mindlessly chase and charge towards you. Adapt and change your strategy based on which threat you’re facing.
All ranged Weapons use ammo. You can collect ammo from armed human enemies, police vehicles, containers in NERO checkpoints, and other containers in some other buildings. Otherwise, you’ll be forced to buy them from a Merchant in any encampment. You can also store additional ammo in your Bike and replenish your clip by purchasing the necessary upgrade for it.
