Tradecraft

This is the quest where you’ll get to join the Railroad. Meet with Deacon in the road west of Lexington. Talk to him and follow him as you try to follow the trail left by the “tourist”. Continue in the overpass until you reach Ricky. Once he tells you his phrase, give him the Railroad password.

Next, talk to Deacon. You’ll have to get to their old HQ’s escape tunnel. Follow the marker and enter the tunnel. Once inside, talk to Deacon and tell him you’re ready. He’ll override the security door.

Head inside and go down the ramp. Kill the synth and retrieve the cache behind the crate. Continue further and kill more synths. Continue deeper until you reach a security door with a Novice terminal you can use to open it.

Once you’ve reached the large hall known as The Switchboard, turn to the left to find the generator room with an active Fusion Core. The room to the NW has Beds and a cooking station. Go upstairs and you’ll find an issue of the U.S. Covert Operations Manual on the table with the terminal.

Open the blue double-door to the SW. You can disable the laser tripwires here by accessing the Expert terminal or you can deactivate them yourself. If you turn to the right, you’ll find the restrooms and a Advanced locked door in the end of the corridor. There is a duffel bag and toolbox inside.

Continue to the other room and clear the corridors of synths. Head left towards Department X / R&D and clear it as well. Here, you’ll find the red steamer trunk, armor workbench, weapon workbench, and hazmat suits. The vault contains the mission item, stealth boy, and mini-nuke.

Leave the room then back to the corridor. Turn right to the databanks. The Novice terminal in the front can unlock the security door in the room. Continue upstairs to the exit. There’s an Advanced security door that has a fusion core behind it and some components inside the tool box. Continue to the elevator, Power it up using the terminal beside it and ride the elevator up. Leave the room and you’ll be in an unmarked Slocum’s Joe shop west of Super Duper Mart.

Now return to the Old North Church and talk to Deacon and Desdemona. Deacon will speak highly of you and you’ll have the option to go with his lie. After convincing Dez, you’ll have the option to join the Railroad. After that, you’ll also get to choose your own codename. Once done, the Railroad HQ will be marked in the map, the quest will be complete and the next one, “Boston after Dark” will become available. Deacon will also become a companion.
