The War-Chief’s Trail

After receiving the quest from Varl in the Embrace’s main gate, the ambush site will be marked in your map. Head there then use your Focus to scan a corrupted watcher carcass. Examine it physically then scan and examine the corruptor. Shortly after, a survivor named Dran will arrive. Talk to him to get more clues about Sona’s whereabouts.

The quest marker will point to the specific spot in the eastern cliffs of Devil’s Thirst. This is just southeast of the area where the tallneck is roaming. Head to the spot and find the rocky cliff that you can climb on. Reach the top of the cliff to find an abandoned camping spot. Use your focus to scan the highlighted objects then examine them individually up close. You have to examine the arrowheads, food scraps, bow, bandages, and campfire to update your objective.

Next, use your Focus again to highlight the trail that Sona and her men took. Follow the trail until you reach a grassland with a dead sawtooth near the edge. Approach the sawtooth carcass and a short cutscene will play. Sona will arrive with a handful of her men to meet you. After a short conversation with her, she’ll ask you to follow her to track down the attackers to their camp.

Follow Sona and use the campfire along the way. Continue following her until you reach the dig site where the killers are staying. The cultists have corrupted watchers on their side but you can take advantage of the blaze containers. Shooting these with fire arrows will cause a small but powerful explosion capable of instantly killing the cultists and watchers near the explosion.

Sona and her men are ready to attack but you’re allowed to take your time sneaking around the camp to get to a favorable shooting position where you can snipe the blaze containers. Stealth kills like headshot to humans and eye-shots to watchers will not trigger your allies to attack. Use your stealth advantage to lessen the number of targets before initiating the main attack. Remember to take advantage of the powerful blaze containers to your advantage. When attacking normally, equip you fire arrows still since they’re effective against human enemies and corrupted machines.

Clear the area of hostiles then talk to Sona. Use your focus to locate the focus file sitting on a wooden pallet. Listen to the datapoint then talk to Sona and Varl. After a short conversation, the quest is complete. The following quest “Revenge of the Nora” will become available afterward.
