Gift from the Past

You’ll be controlling young Aloy and this will also serve as the tutorial for the basic controls of the game. From where you landed, there will be two paths. It doesn’t matter which one you’ll take since you’ll end up in the same exit. Crouch as instructed to slip through the narrow opening unto the next area.

There’s nothing much to explore here so continue until you reach the doorway with the stairs. If you look to the left, you’ll find a metal flower but the doorway is blocked by stalagmites and stalactites. You can’t reach it for now so just take note of its location then take the stairs.

Follow the path until you reach the large room with the corpse highlighted by the light beam from the ceiling. Approach it to trigger a scene. After the cutscene, you’ll be able to use the Focus now. This handy scanning device will be an integral part of the game and will help you identify items of interest, tag enemies, find tracks, and many more.

For this part, you have to find a way to unlock the electronic door ahead. Use your focus to trace the holo lock in the other room and operate it until the red bar reaches the bottom of the dial. The door will now be unlocked so go past it.

Up ahead is another blocked room so just take note of it and come back for it later. For now, scan the audio datapoint (08: For Director Evans) with your focus to register it to your datapoint collection. Go through the open door and continue downstairs.

Continue past the doorways until you reach the marked room. A cutscene will trigger automatically. The hologram datapoint “Happy Birthday Isaac!” will be added to your Notebook. There’s another room that you can’t access for now so continue to the barely open door and squeeze your way through.

In the next area, turn to the right and find two more audio datapoints there. (06: Connor Chasson, 07: Full Stop) Once done, continue upstairs.

This area will have two paths but will bring you to the same exit. If you want more datapoints to be registered, explore the area to get the following audio datapoints:

After collecting the data points, leave the room and continue along the straightforward path until you hear Rost calling. Continue to the light and climb the rocks to trigger the cutscene and complete the quest. This location will be marked in your map as “Ruins” which you can revisit later on.
