Can't wait to start the game? Here are some quick tips to get started immediately! If you need detailed information, kindly refer to the individual pages of the topic you need help with.
Always gather whatever you find as you’ll need them to craft various consumables and upgrades.
Create fast-travel packs as early as possible and keep a good supply of them
Hunt normal wildlife as well for extra EXP and other usable resources
Prioritize upgrading your satchels, primarily your arrows and resource satchels.
Use Focus often to tag targets, both machine and wildlife, as well as identifying items of interests, destroyed machines that you can loot, campfires, and many more.
Save often. If you die, your valuable loot will be lost and you’ll start from the last campfire you used.
Consult your map often to see the locations of campfires and quest NPCs.
Ledges, ladders, and platforms are your friends. Most machines that doesn’t have projectiles can’t reach you while on top of platforms or when hanging on ledges or ladders. Use this tactic for escaping and fighting defensively.
Avoid standing in the open, especially if there are machines nearby. Their line of sight is quite far and they’ll investigate if they spot you from afar. If you’ll use Focus to scout the area, make sure you’re hiding in the bushes or from an elevated location.
Keep your medicinal pouch stocked by foraging plants and mushrooms you find along the way.
Whenever you get new weapons like the Tripcaster and Ropecaster, optional tutorial quests will become available. Even new, upgraded versions of the weapons you have in your possession will have new tutorial quests so make sure to finish them to earn free easy EXP.
Always check the merchants for Free Sample Boxes. These usually contain basic resources. Free is free!
Later on once you’re able to override machines, the machine you overridden will disappear if you fast-travel
When you’re ready to leave the Embrace as part of the story, various merchants will appear and will be stationed outside every major village and in the gate itself. You may find them selling various specialty boxes (expensive but very rare items) and maps that will mark collectibles in the game.
For Skills, get Concentration, Silent Strike, and Healer. Concentration allows you to land more precise shots, Silent Strike will enable you ambush targets from cover, and Healer ensures that you’ll be improving your survivability. Once done, work your way to getting Tinker since this will allow you to freely remove or swap mods in your weapons and armor.
