Blood on Stone

This quest is started in Cut-Cliffs, the quarry site north of Meridian. Talk to the Quarry Foreman to learn about the murder of five night guards, that’s been “shredded like cabbage”. If you have encountered a Rockbreaker before starting this quest, you’ll be able to shed light about what is responsible for the men’s deaths.

Make preparations then go down the quarry and investigate the mound. Shortly after, a rockbreaker will attack. You can’t rely on the boulders here since they offer no protection against the shredding mouth of the rockbreaker. Also, wires won’t be able to hold it while it's still able to burrow so using the ropecaster to make it stationary will be pointless.

The rockbreaker has two main attacks; one is by homing in on you and bursting from the ground while spewing rocks around it and the other is by leaping out from the ground towards you. These can be easily avoided but you have to be prepared to counterattack immediately. The Concentration skill will allow you to land precise shots especially when you just evaded the rockbreaker’s attack. Later on, it will rapidly but briefly burst from the ground while hunting you. When it does this, concentrate on evading since you can’t counterattack right away.

Your main objective is to destroy the components on all of its four claws, to disable its burrowing ability. The Tearblaster or tearblast arrows work exceptionally well in achieving this. While you’re working on removing its claw components, keep an eye out of the movements on the ground. There are also explosive containers nearby which can be detonated by using fire arrows. However, it will require you to lure the rockbreaker near one and equally good timing to detonate it while the rockbreaker is above ground.

After successfully disabling its ability to burrow, finishing off the rockbreaker will be a whole lot easier. It will be a lot slower but don’t engage it in melee since it can still use wide sweep attacks. Its two main weakpoints, the exhaust ports and belly sac will be easy targets and will deal a tremendous amount of damage when hit, especially when you can release double or triple arrows in a single shot. It’s also worth mentioning that you can now tie it down with the Ropecaster which will make it easier to shoot its weak spots.

After defeating the rockbreaker, loot its remains, then report back to the quarry foreman to complete the quest.
