What are Crests?

Last Updated:
These are special insignia believed to be blessings from the Goddess and grants the bearer various boons like enhanced strength or magical aptitude that a normal person could never attain. Starting from the heroes or original bearers, crests are likely to be passed down their bloodline but with no guarantee as to which member of kin will it appear to. Crests play a great role in the story as it has a significant impact to the game’s society and one of the drives behind Edelgard’s campaign.

Crests also play a considerable role in combat since they’re are fixed to their specific bearers. Crests can not be removed or transferred. Their activation is random though most likely to activate often to the bearers of major crests and occasionally to bearers of a minor crest.

In New Game++, players can spend Renown to buy items that will enable even crestless characters to have a crest. This will have no impact to the game’s narrative.

You can view a unit's crest information by opening their Status screen, then press X to open the Details cursor. Move the cursor to the unit's crest icon on the left side of the screen.

Additional information about this topic and crest images are obtained from the game’s Wikia site.
