When instructing manually, you have to prioritize the students with full motivation or those you want to empower first. You only have a limited number of action points per study session but this can be increased by raising your Professor Level.

The number of times you can teach a student will depend on their motivation level. At full motivation (100 pts), you can instruct a student up to 4 times. You can’t instruct a student with an empty motivation gauge. As such, prioritize students with full motivation (with the green smiley icon beside their name). It will also help increasing their motivation the weekend before by giving them Gifts, triggering their Support conversation, dining or having tea with them, and other activities.

After selecting your student, you’ll need to select the skill you want them to develop. On top of the base EXP they’ll get on the selected skill, extra EXP will be affected by several factors such as:
* Strength: (blue up arrow) This is the student’s natural Talent to the skill. The student gains +EXP
* Saint Statue: You’ll unlock Saint Statues later in the game. Investing Renown points on them will give you EXP on specific Skills.
* Weakness: The student gets minus EXP for this skill. Take note however, that there are students with Budding Talents on the Skills they’re initially weak with.
* Professor Expertise: These are the Skills that Byleth is proficient with. Students will get additional EXP.
