Neutral Attack / Special | Press the attack or special button only without using the Circle Pad. |
Side Attack / Special | Hold the circle pad to the left or right then press the attack / special buttons |
Down Attack / Special | Hold the circle pad down and press the attack / special buttons |
Up Attack / Special | Hold the circle pad up and press the attack / special buttons |
Up/ Side / Down Smash | Hold the circle pad to the corresponding direction and press the attack button at the same time. Smash attacks can be charged. It can be released prematurely or the character will release it after charging the move enough. |
Dash Attack | Tap left or right to dash then press the attack button. |
Air Attacks | Similar to basic attacks and specials, most characters perform different air attacks by using similar button and circle pad combinations. |
Recovery | This is the recommended move to get back to the edge of the stage ledge if ever you get blown off but not KO'd |
Final Smash | After successfully destroying a Smash Ball, press and hold the special button to unleash your character's Final Smash attack. |
Basic Attacks
Palutena attacks using her staff. The shining light at the tip of her rod can deal multiple hits to the target before blowing his/her away.

Dash Attacks
Palutena dashes forward with her shield up.
Smash Attacks
Palutena flaps her wings forward, launching enemies off.
Palutena fires a skyward beam from the ground.
Palutena will flap both of her wings down, hitting enemies on both sides.
Special Attacks
A reticule will appear on the target and Palutena will fire three energy projectiles from her staff. If there are obstacles between her and the target or if the target is out of range, no projectiles will be released. The reticule will stay on the target's original position when you activated the skill. If the target moves away and the projectiles are released, the reticule will remain in its position and the projectiles will still hit it.
Palutena will cast a wall that can reflect projectiles and push opponents a bit.
Warp (Up Special)
Palutena will teleport to any direction. After activating this move, quickly tilt the circle pad to the direction of your choosing. Palutena will appear on that direction, a good distance away from her initial position. After using this move, she'll be in a fall state so be careful not to teleport out of the stage or you won't have any chance to recover.
Palutena will enter a defensive stance with her staff and shield and counter any attack that will come within her hitbox while she's in that very brief stance.
Air Attacks
Palutena will swing her staff around
Palutena will kick forward.
Palutena will bash her shield to the back.
Palutena emits a radiant aura around her.
A downward strike using her staff.
Final Smash
Palutena summons a black hole that can suck in opponents. Then she'll jump farther back and fire a very large laser to the opponents caught within the black hole.
Recovery
Palutena's Warp can be used both for horizontal and vertical recovery. This move covers a good jump height and horizontal distance. She has good jump height too since she's a lightweight character.
Gameplay
Palutena is surely not for beginner players. Her movement speed both on the ground and on the air is comfortably fast. Her attacks don't deal that much damage and her Special moves are mostly used for defensive purposes. To effectively play as Palutena, players need to be tactical. She will rely mostly on her Smash moves to deal solid damage and prevent opponents from damaging her too much. Autoreticule is her only long-range attack and the range/obstruction limitations it has doesn't make it quite appealing to use, especially in the heat of a battle. Palutena can't attack with smooth-flowing combos and her multi-hit moves don't do that much damage either. In the hands of a good player, Palutena can annoy the heck of her opponents by proper timing of using Reflect Barrier to reflect projectiles and Counter for close-range fighters. Her Warp is a very effective recovery move and will allow her to move past her target without the risk of getting hit.
