When the special ends, the Rocketbarrel explodes, capable of damaging enemies close to the explosion but won't hurt Diddy. This special can be annoying and effective in keeping launched opponents from recovering with the proper timing.
Recovery
Diddy's main recovery move is his Rocketbarrel Boost. This move can be charged in mid-air, allowing him to hover for a good 2 seconds while charging. Not only that, you can use this in vertical or horizontal recovery since you can point the direction where you want to blast off while charging. You can also steer him to a small degree while in flight.
Gameplay
Due to his size, Diddy is one of the agile and fast characters in the Smash roster. His side attacks whether basic or special have good reach and his Up attacks can launch opponents considerably in the air. His projectiles doesn't hit that hard but can be a good deterrent in most enemies while you prepare for them to approach you. His Banana Peel is a bit tricky to use but can be quite useful in stopping enemies on their tracks since getting hit by it instantly tips over the target. However, these can backfire since peanuts can be caught and eaten to recovery health and banana peels can be picked up by an opponent and use it against Diddy Kong.
Diddy also has some good attacks while in the air, like his Forward Air Attack that has good reach and his Down Air attack that can have a meteor effect. His Monkey Flip can be used as a recovery move since it covers a good distance and you can follow it up with another jump or Rocketbarrel Boost. It can even stop an opponent's charge if used at the right time.
