Equipment
Both Kratos and Atreus wear equipment that can be upgraded. Kratos has the following slots available:
In the other hand, Atreus has the following:
All of these can be enhanced to improve your characters’ stats and overall power level. You can also equip Runic Attacks, spend XP to unlock more powerful skills, craft new armor pieces using resources found along the way. If an armor piece Enchantment Sockets, you can also add one or more Enchantments.
Please refer to this guide’s dedicated Equipment and Skills section for more details. As a general rule of thumb, regularly upgrading and swapping to the latest equipment ensures that the father and son's combat prowess keeps up with the challenges they face ahead.
Weapon Upgrades
For more details how to obtain the required materials to upgrade the weapons below, please refer to their dedicated sections in the guide.
Leviathan Axe
This is Kratos' default weapon that can deliver heavy close-range damage and can be thrown (and recalled) for long-range damage. When thrown, Kratos can still attack using his fists until the axe is recalled. The axe also slows down enemies with Frost status effect and can be incredibly potent against enemies weak against its element.
To upgrade this weapon, you need to obtain Frozen Flames. These are unique materials obtained only by completing specific tasks and defeating certain bosses.
Blades of Chaos
Later in his journey, Kratos will have to dig up his signature weapon since his axe's power won't be enough to tackle the dangers ahead. Obtaining this weapon will allow Kratos to alternately swap between the blades and axe. The Blades have a faster and wider attack, which can also cause Burn status effect to enemies. Upgrading this weapon requires Chaos Flames that can be obtained by defeating certain bosses.
Talon Bow
Atreus' trusty ranged weapon which will allow him to fire arrows. Eventually, he'll gain access to Light and Shock arrows (obtained by defeating certain bosses). Light arrows will weaken enemies and also stuns them while shock arrows deal Shock elemental damage to targets. Upgrading the weapon requires both Hacksilver and Svartalfheim steel.
