Viridian City

Walkthrough

At the northern end of Route 1 is Viridian City. This city is home to a Pokemon Gym, but it will be locked until much later in the Main Story. You won't be able to proceed north of Viridian City towards Route 2 because an Old Man will be blocking the path. Instead, you must first pick up the parcel at the Poke Mart and return it back to Professor Oak in Pallet Town. After you do, Professor Oak will gift you with the Pokedex and some Poke Balls to caught Wild Pokemon.
