The Vermilion City Gym is home to Gym Leader Lt. Surge, an Electric Type Pokemon Trainer. After receiving HM Cut from the S.S. Anne Captain, you will finally be able to gain access to the Vermilion City Gym. Unlike the first two Pokemon Gyms, this one has a true puzzle to it. Scattered throughout the Pokemon Gym are trash bins, two of which will have buttons to remove the electric waves preventing you from challenging Lt. Surge. By defeating the trainers within the puzzle, you will learn that the Buttons are suppose to be next to each other (though it isn't told in which direction). After eventually finding both buttons consecutively, you will be able to move on to Lt. Surge.

Sailor Dwayne: Level 21 Pikachu, Level 21 Pikachu

Engineer Baily: Level 21 Voltorb, Level 21 Magnemite

Gentleman Tucker: Level 23 Pikachu

Because Lt. Surge specializes in Electric Type Pokemon, he is extremely weak against Ground Type Pokemon. Water Types and Flying Types are extremely weak against Electric Type Pokemon, so avoid using them if you can. Defeat Lt. Surge to earn the Thunder Badge and TM34 (Shock Wave).

Gym Leader Lt. Surge: Level 21 Voltorb, Level 18 Pikachu, Level 24 Raichu
