Mewtwo is one of the few Legendary Pokemon that can be found within Pokemon FireRed, being the genetic clone of the Mythical Pokemon known as Mew. Mewtwo will most likely be the fourth Legendary Pokemon you encounter within the game, since its location isn't accessible until after you have defeated the Elite Four. Mewtwo can be found at the bottom of Cerulean Cave, which is located just north of Cerulean City. Cerulean Cave is a large cave that you must maneuver though by traversing the waters within, slowly going deeper and deeper within the cave by using the ladder system. Mewtwo awaits at the far bottom level of Cerulean Cave.

Mewtwo will be found at Level 70 - the strongest Wild Pokemon in the entire game - and it will know the moves Swift, Recover, Safeguard, and Psychic. Since Psychic and Swift are Mewtwo's only attacking moves, they're really the only things you will need to worry about. Since Psychic Type Moves aren't effective against Dark Type Pokemon, they are usually the way to go when facing this Legend. Mewtwo is also a Psychic Type Pokemon, meaning its especially weak to Bug Type Attacks and Dark Type Attacks. Make sure to also paralyze Mewtwo when in battle with it, making it all the easier to capture.

When looking to catch Mewtwo, always save directly before proceeding to battling it. It's never fun when you accidentally defeat Mewtwo or if it defeats all of your Pokemon, but all of that is avoidable simply by saving directly before trying to catch it. Also, don't forget to purchase loads of Repels and Ultra Balls from the Poke Mart before going to catch Mewtwo. Repels will help you avoid facing Wild Pokemon leading up to Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave, and Ultra Balls are the best possible Poke Balls you can use when trying to catch Mewtwo (unless, of course, you're going to use your Master Ball on it).
