How To Defeat Gym Leader Koga

The fifth Gym Leader you will face on the road to collecting all eight Kanto Gym Badges is Koga. He is the Fuchsia City Gym Leader, specializing in Poison Type Pokemon. Since you are now more than halfway to collecting all eight Kanto Gym Badges, Koga's Pokemon Team will be difficult to defeat regardless of your Starter Pokemon. This is because neither Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle (and their given Evolutions) will have a type advantage over Koga's Poison Types since they are all neutral against each other.

Because none of the Starter Pokemon will have an advantage over Koga, you might need to add an additional Pokemon or two on your way to Fuchsia City to better help you with Koga's (two) Koffing, Muk and Weezing. The best Pokemon for this job is either Onix (found in Rock Tunnel) or Jynx (obtained by trading with the man in the house next to the Pokemon Center in Celadon City), since Koga's Poison Type Pokemon are weak against both Ground Types like Onix and Psychic Types like Jynx.
