How To Catch Ho-Oh

Even though Pokemon FireRed takes place in the Kanto Region, the Pokemon from the first three Pokemon Generations are coded within the game since it was released during the 3rd Generation. This means that even though most cannot be found naturally in the Wild within Pokemon FireRed, all the Legendary Pokemon from the 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation can be traded for and obtained.

Back when the Nintendo GameBoy Advance was still the main Nintendo Handheld Device, the Pokemon Company actually held an event so players could actually obtain Ho-Oh, one of the Legendary Pokemon of the Johto Region, within Pokemon FireRed. This event was for the MysticTicket, which would allow players to take the ferry to Naval Rock where Ho-Oh can be found.

Since those Pokemon Events ended a long time ago, the only way to obtain Ho-Oh these days is by using Cheat Code Device. If playing on an actual Game Boy Advance, you will need either a Action Replay Device or a Codebreaker Device to be inserted into your Game Boy Advance. These will allow you to input a cheat code to either warp to Naval Rock or to obtain the MysticTicket in order to find Ho-Oh. If you are playing on an online emulator, you simply need to download one that supports these types of codes.

If using a Codebreaker Device (or are playing on an emulator that supports their given codes), you will first need to enter the Master Code "000014DS 000A 10044EC8 0007". After that, you will need to enter the Naval Rock Warp Code, which is "82031dbc 2402". After activating both codes, you should be warped to Naval Rock simply by reloading your game.

If using an Action Replay Device (or are playing on an emulator that supports their given codes), you will first need to enter and activate the codes "72BC6DFB E9CA5465 A47FB2DC 1AF3CA86" and "8D671FD9 6F6BEFF2 78DA95DF 44018CB4". After that, you will need to enter the MysticTicket Code, which is "0E12F25C BC489609 141BB87C 83D7018F 7A063220 5D82DF58 2782EFCA 4EED1397". After activating this final code, you should be able to purchase the MysticTicket from the clerk in any Poke Mart.

Once at Naval Rock, take the left path to go to the top of Eight Island and find Ho-Oh. It will be found at Level 70, and it will know the moves Recover, Fire Blast, Sunny Day, and Swift. Since Fire Blast and Swift are Ho-Oh's only attacking moves, they're really the only things you will need to worry about. Since Fire Type Moves aren't effective Water Type Pokemon, they are usually the way to go when facing this Legend. Ho-Oh is also a Fire/Flying Type Pokemon, meaning its especially weak to Rock Type Attacks and Water Type Attacks. Make sure to also paralyze Ho-Oh when in battle with it, making it all the easier to capture.

When looking to catch Ho-Oh, always save directly before proceeding to battling it. It's never fun when you accidentally defeat Ho-Oh or if it defeats all of your Pokemon, but all of that is avoidable simply by saving directly before trying to catch it. Also, don't forget to purchase loads of Ultra Balls from the Poke Mart before going to catch Ho-Oh. Ultra Balls are the best possible Poke Balls you can use when trying to catch Ho-Oh, unless, of course, you're going to use your Master Ball on it.
