Welcome to our Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Walkthrough. The game brings you the story of Princess Sakuna as she finds her way to the Isle of Demons. She’ll need to learn how to live there and survive as she battles her way through different locations, while also trying to prosper in her new Home as she grows rice in order to get stronger.

Our story begins with Tauemon, and his group of other humans trying to escape through a heavenly bridge. As they go forward, a voice tells them to head back since they’re about to go into the land of the Gods. They keep on walking forwards however, and end up being blocked along the way by a person named Ishimaru.

Ishimaru wants Tauemon killed, but a small woman who’s drunk suddenly appears. This is Princess Sakuna, and she gets angry at Ishimaru for belittling her. Sakuna will also give her warning to the humans and heeds them to go back. Tauemon and his group however, decide to go forward since they are already famished and would like something to eat.

In the Mihashira Capital, a celebration is ongoing. You’ll find Sakuna and her friend Kokorowa discussing about the offerings that they have for Lady Kamuhitsuki. Their conversation is cut short since Sakuna notices that the humans have entered the capital already. She’ll excuse herself, and then try to chase the humans.

Mihashira Capital -Hallway Part 1-

Once Sakuna begins chase, this will be the Introduction of how you can control Sakuna during the Side Scrolling sections of the game. Based on the platform you are playing; you’ll learn about the following Controls:

Movement and Jump will be introduced
Movement and Jump will be introduced

Movement: You control Sakuna using the WASD Keys if you’re playing through a computer, or using the left Joystick / Dpad.

Jump: A dedicated jump button will be shown on the screen that you can use. Sakuna can jump once, so you will have to jump across the obstacles ahead in order to get the next area.

Mihashira Capital -Hallway Part 2-

In the second area of the hallway, you’ll continue your movement and jumping across obstacles. You’ll then be introduced to her a new ability which lets her extend the floating cloth behind her. This can let Sakuna reach new areas and pull herself towards it.

Raiment: Using your movement key/joystick, you will press the Raiment button as shown on the screen. Her Raiment can be aimed horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. She can attach herself to walls and ceilings. You can jump across and them use your Raiment to attach to the wall so you can jump across.

On the following areas, you’ll have to jump across suspended platforms. Jump across to the left then aim your Raiment upward to the ceiling. As you let go, you can then jump to the left side and then continue your way to the very left.

You can attach yourself to walls and jump after as well when using your Raiment. Instructions will be shown to you, so you can aim your Raiment diagonally to the upper right and then attach yourself to the wall. Once you jump, you’ll be able to reach the upper area and move on to the next location.

Mihashira Capital -Hallway Part 3-

As Sakuna continues her chase, you’ll find some sentient puppets that will begin to attack you along the way. This section will introduce you on how to attack your opponents.

Light and Heavy Attacks: The button on the screen will show you which ones you need to press to execute light and heavy attacks. Light attacks deal lesser damage, but they’re quicker to use. Heavy attacks are slower but stronger. You can have different combinations of attacks by mixing light and heavy sequences, and you can aim different directions as well.

Swinging around Enemies: Using the Raiment button, you can attack yourself to enemies and swing across to the other side. This will help you move across the screen or perhaps use it as an evasive measure in order to avoid attacks. Once you attach yourself to an opponent, simply press the Raiment button once again to swing across to the other side.

Once all enemies have been defeated, you can continue to the next area and find the humans. An accident will occur, and you’ll find that the offerings will get burned. Watch the scene and you’ll see that the Goddess Lady Kamuhitsuki will punish Sakuna for her actions. This will then begin Sakuna’s journey as she is banished from the capital and assigned to go to the Isle of Demons.

The Capital section of the game counts as the game’s tutorial. You’ll then set sail to the isle of demons with the rest of the humans since they cannot go back to their Home anymore due to the heavenly bridge being gone. Sakuna, Tama, and the Humans say their goodbyes to the Capital and set forth on their journey.
