The Nocturnal Hollow in Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is an interesting dungeon since the paths that you can take will depend on the time of the day. Upon entering, you’ll find yourself in an area where you can only proceed on one of two paths. The hollow’s objectives are for you to reach the exit only, so this should be simple enough right?
The number of enemies that you can encounter here can be come tricky, and the path can be winding as well. In order for you to reach the exit, you’ll want to know which way to go through. The Nocturnal Hollow can be actually quite challenging. On this page we shall see the objectives that you'll need to clear, as well as Tips on how to finish them.
Unlock Requirements: Reach Exploration level 95
Location | Enemy Strength |
---|---|
Entrance | Day 28+ / Night 46+ |
Exploration Objective (s) | Star Rating |
---|---|
Reach the exit (Day) | 1 Star |
Reach the exit (Night) | 2 Stars |

Upon entering the hollow during the day, you’ll notice that there’s a barrier to a path to the top area. This barrier will only be removed once it’s night time, and it will transfer to the path below and block it. This means that the path above will be naturally more difficult since it can only be accessed at night. For now, we’ll be taking the Day path.
As you jump down to the lower right, you’ll find enemies waiting for you. You can throw them to the spike on the left for extra damage if needed, and you’ll have to take out two waves. Once you continue, there’s a mining spot you can gather from on the right before you jump down to the pit that leads you on the area below.
Before continuing down, another mine spot can be found on the right side. As you walk to the left, you’ll find yourself going further beneath the area. Make sure to get the box on the upper left before you go down since this contains a Skill Powder. You’ll find a bridge that’s barricaded by a spike, so make use of this to defeat the waves of demons.
Continue to the right side and you should find Demon Rabbits ahead of you, as well as on the platform above. You can find another mining spot to the upper left side of the rabbits if you need. Defeat the rabbits and continue to the right, you should find a box there that contains Magic Flakes.
To the left side of the box, there’s a path you can use in order to go up. There’s going to be a demon pig there with a shield waiting, as well as some rabbits and a badger, and the platform above has a demon rabbit. The box there will contain Luck Powder. Once you have defeated all of them, you can head to the upper left side in order to get more items. There are two levels with waves of monsters there, on the upper most level, you can find a Powder of Transformation.
In order to reach the exit, you will have to go to the right side from where you obtained the Luck Powder. You’ll find a mining spot that you can gather resources from, and then on the top platform you’ll find demon sparrows waiting. Defeat the waves of monsters you’ll find here, and you should be able to exit on the upper right side.
If your exploration level is below level 99, you’ll unlock Direhaze Mountain Summit. This won’t contain anything and in order to progress the story, you’ll need to reach exploration level 99 in order to unlock Direhaze Keep. Once you have memorized the path, you can aim to finish the 120 second objective for reaching the exit. The night objective can be completed later in the game by taking the path above instead once Sakuna is stronger, so it would be best for you to tend to your rice and get more upgrades for her stats.
