These are tools that let you explore your Island much better due to you needing certain items to cross over specific types of terrain. The Vaulting Pole and Ladder are the only tools that won’t break. Here we will talk about how to unlock them, and how you can use them.

How can I unlock the Vaulting Pole recipe?

Part of your first goals when arriving on your island is to provide Tom Nook with Fish and Insects. As you keep providing him with these, he’ll contact his friend Blathers and invite him over. Once you have set up Blather’s tent, he’ll ask your help with opening up a museum. Blathers will provide you with a recipe for the Vaulting Pole.

How to use the Vaulting Pole

In order to use the Vaulting Pole, make sure to hold the item first and then stand in front of a body of water that you can cross. As long as there’s land on the other side, simply press A and you can use the pole to jump over.

How to unlock the Ladder recipe?

In order to unlock the Ladder Recipe, you must complete the progress of Timmy and Tommy’s request of opening up a shop. Once Nook’s Cranny is built, talk to Tom Nook at Resident Services and he’ll ask your help for setting up land for new villagers. He’ll be sending you a recipe for the Ladder since this will help with the request.

How to use the Ladder

The ladder helps you reach higher ground by climbing up, and then getting down as well. Earlier in the game, you won’t have access to steps or inclines yet so you’ll have to use the ladder to go around. If you’re in front of terrain that’s higher or lower than you, simply press A in order to climb up or down.
