What does Call Resident do in Animal Crossing? This feature lets you play co-op mode with someone locally. Players can perform Activities together as long as everyone is on the same screen.
In order to unlock this app, you’ll need a second player character. On your Nintendo Switch, make sure that you have a second profile set up aside from yours. Launch the game using the second profile and create a new character, they won’t be able to create their own island but only go to the one that you have on your main account.
Once the character has been created and given their tent, save the game and switch back to your main profile. You’ll now have access to Call Resident.
When you use Call Resident, you’ll be calling the Villager that was created on the other profile. You will then start co-op mode where you can control your character, and the second player can control the one that was created on the second profile.
Once you have called them, you’ll be assigning your controllers. You can play with a single joycon each if you wish. In order to assign the character, you’ll be asked to press L and R on your controller (or SL and SR if you use a single Joycon). Once the characters have been assigned, you can now play together and you’ll be on the same screen.
You can call up to three residents in total for local play. This means that you’ll control your own character, and 3 other people will control a resident each meaning there should be 3 other profiles on your Nintendo Switch system.
One player will be assigned as the Leader. They have access to the inventory and they are the ones that can interact with NPCs such as selling items. You can pass the leader status by shaking your controller. The leader can give Tools to other residents from their own inventory.
Residents who are called do not have their own inventory for picking up items. Any items they pick up will go to the recycling box at Resident Services.
