What is the Shovel used for in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? The Shovel is probably one of the most versatile Tools that you’ll get to use in this game. Not only is it used to dig Fossils or hit rocks for minerals, you can also use it for planting and getting items.

Shovel Tool

== One of the first tools that you can create after learning from the DIY Workshop of Tom Nook is the Flimsy Shovel, you can then upgrade this to more durable versions later. The main purpose of the Shovel is for digging cracks on the ground to get fossils, as well as hitting rocks to get minerals.

Other uses of the shovel are to remove tree stumps, dig for clams on the beach, digging up plants and whole trees, and to dig holes for planting seeds, trees, and fruit.

Resources obtained

The shovel tool provides you with one of the many ways you can get resources. When you see cracks on the ground, you’ll be able to dig up for fossils. There is a total of 80 types available and you’ll need to donate them to the Museum. Any repeating fossil that you get can be sold for bells if you wish., so make sure to let Blathers assess the fossils that you have. You can check our Complete List of Fossils for more information.

When shovels are used on rocks, you are capable of hitting it 7 times to get 7 pieces of items. Each hit that you do will yield 1 piece, and you’ll get pushed back a bit. So make sure that you walk towards the rock each time you hit the rock. Here are the resources that you can get from hitting rocks with a shovel:

* Clay

* Iron Nugget

* Gold Nugget

* Bells

* Occasional Insect

When shovels are used to dig holes, you can plant seeds, fruits, trees, as well as bags of bells. In return, these provide you with items such as more fruit and money bags, as well as more trees that you can harvest using an Axe with.
