Wild Pokémon Battles

You can encounter wild Pokémon by scouring tall grass. Pokémon lurking in these grasses vary in level, types depending on the location. Pokémon Black and White also introduced darker patches of grasses where different and more powerful Pokémon for that route are found. Pokémon X and Y allows you to find more types of Pokémon per route by searching through patches of grass with flowers.

Different colored flowers will house different types of Pokémon. Deliberately seeking wild Pokémon will be integral in training your Pokémon, capturing new types to add to your team or simply to increase your Pokedex database.

Trainer Battles

You’ll encounter other trainers who will challenge you into battles which is a good way of training your Pokémon and earning money. Rival trainers will often have a bit more powerful Pokémon relative to the route they’re hanging out to present you a good challenge. A battle will commence if you walk into their line of sight. As such, you can avoid other trainers by going around them. This is a good way to avoid battles if your Pokémon team is not battle-ready and in need of healing.

Horde Encounters

This is one of the new battle mechanics featured in the game where your single Pokémon will have to fight a group of wild Pokémon. Winning these encounters will surely help your Pokémon grow faster but you’re in for a tough ride if your Pokémon is not strong enough or lacking moves that can target multiple enemies.

Sky Battles

You can now seek out trainers on high cliffs and distant locations to challenge them to a sky battle. Only Pokémon that have flying animation (or those who are levitating) are allowed to participate in this airborne battle.
