Player Search System or PSS is a new feature in pokemon x/Y that will allow you to connect with other trainers playing either versions of the game. You can connect with local players nearby or worldwide via the internet. Players must both activate PSS by tapping the icon on their 3DS systems. This feature will allow you to do more stuff aside from trading and battling pokemon.
One of the basic functions of PSS is allowing players to battle each other locally or over the internet, without the need to go to a Pokemon Center in Kalos.
Trading is another basic feature of PSS which allows trainers to exchange pokemon locally or over the internet, without the need to go to a Pokemon Center in Kalos.
This is another form of trading available in PSS which will allow you to instantly trade a pokemon of your choice to another pokemon offered by another trainer around the world. The catch of this feature is that you won’t know what pokemon you’ll get until the trade is already taking place.
This PSS feature allows you use your internet connection to fight other trainers around the world. You can compete in Free Battles or take on tougher challenges in Ranked/ Rated Battles. The latter allows you accumulate scores for winning which will also be posted in your profile on the Pokemon Global Link. This feature also includes penalties for disconnecting. If a player disconnects from a battle, a loss will be recorded in his/her profile.
These are special powers that will help you in your adventure. Some O-Powers temporarily boost your stats, increase your chances in capturing pokemon and even increase the experience points and prize money you get from winning battles.
You can share your O-powers to your friends locally or over the internet. O-Powers are acquired by taking to Mr. Bonding, an NPC that usually hangs out in Pokemon Centers or hotels. To learn more about O-Powers, follow this page.
The shout-out function allows you to send a message that will be displayed to other players nearby or over the internet. The game will allow you to create your own message by using the touchscreen as keyboard.
GTS is like a trading auction where you can put up a pokemon you want to offer for trade and specify what pokemon you want in return. If a matching trainer is found anywhere, the trade will be completed. Unlike previous titles where you can only trade pokemon registered in your Pokedex via GTS, pokemon x/Y will allow you to receive a new pokemon that’s not yet registered.
This feature will allow you to receive news bulletin from the Pokemon Global Link and communicate with other characters within Kalos, similar to Pokemon Black/ White 2’s Xtransceiver. You can also get reports about other trainers you passed via Streetpass.
