Like in the previous game, you’ll have random encounters while exploring the county.
Tanker Trucks: Found along the main roads, you can kill the truck’s driver and the escorts to hijack the truck. Deliver it to Prosperity or the nearest liberated outpost to get bonus ethanol.
Supply Air Drops: From time to time, you'll get a notification about an supply drop that will arrive near your location. Wait for the supply aircraft to pass by then wait for the supply crate to land. There will always be at least two highwaymen who will pick up the package so be prepared to kill them to loot the crate.
Prisoner Trucks: Shoot the driver and release the prisoner inside to get 1 perk point.
Cargo Truck: Kill the driver to halt the vehicle. Open the truck from the lever on the side of the truck to loot a good amount of random resources inside.
Hostages: Kill the highwaymen and rescue the hostages to earn 1 perk point. You have to kill the surrounding highwaymen quickly or they'll execute the hostages before engaging you.
Supply Drops: Once you get the notification in the bottom left of the screen, listen for the airplane passing overhead and look out for a supply crate being dropped from the sky. The crate has a yellow flare that’s easy to spot. Approach the landing spot and get rid of the highwaymen assigned to pick it up. Loot the crate to get various resources, including ethanol.
Scavengers: Found along main roads and trails, these highwaymen will attempt to escape at first sign of trouble. However, if you did get a jump on them, you can obtain a good amount of resources from his/her backpack, including a chance to get a bit of ethanol.
Animal Attacks: When you’re the forested area, you may encounter a predator or highly aggressive herbivore. You’ll have no choice but to defend yourself of course. Once the animal is killed, don’t forget to loot its carcass to get meat and its skin. (If you're traveling with The Judge and with his second ability unlocked, wild animals will not attack you unless you attack them first)
Roving trader: This friendly NPC is a moving resupply point where you can trade your animal loot, refill your ammo, and buy maps from him (requires the Cartography facility upgraded)
Random gunfights: Friendly NPCs, New Edeners, and scouts will be roaming the county. The same thing goes for highwaymen themselves so encounters between the two will always result in a gunfight. You can help get rid of the highwaymen scum and the world a “slightly better place”.
