(Death flag!!)
Butterfly Effect: Who Gets The Gun |
Emily gives the flare gun to Matt |
Emily keeps the flare gun |
Though I tagged this as a Death flag, the actual death scene will not occur this chapter. However, your decisions during this particular butterfly effect will play a great role in the later chapters. This is a very important choice as the flare gun itself can determine the survival of either Matt or Emily. Finding the flare gun is optional so it's possible that you'll miss this butterfly effect altogether if you didn't get the flare gun before contacting the park ranger via radio.
Now, you should consider the following factors:
- In the previous chapter, if you agreed to go to the fire tower and if you give the flare gun to Matt, he'll fire it indiscriminately, rendering it useless. If you disagreed and gave him the flare gun, he'll keep it.
- If Matt attempts to save Emily twice during the tower collapse, they'll both survive the fall but get separated in a mine where he'll be attacked by the wendigo. If he has the flare gun, he can use it to defend himself. Otherwise, it's his end.
- If Matt has the gun then attempts to save Emily once, then jump to save himself during the tower collapse scene, he won't encounter the wendigo in the mines. Thus, the flare gun is practically useless with him.
- If Emily keeps the flare gun and shoots it immediately, this will render the flare gun useless and you'll have the risk of getting Matt killed or Emily bitten.
- If Emily keeps the flare gun and stowed it away, she can use it to defend herself when she's being chased by the wendigo in the later chapter.
To ensure that they both survive and maximize the usefulness of the flare gun, have Emily keep the gun and have Matt jump to safety during the second decision branch.
