Loss Totems signifies a vision for the loss of a friend. How you play will determine whether or not these prophecies come true. As you unlock Totems, "The Events of the Past" will become clear.

Loss Totem #1

[Chapter 2] After breaking in the cabin from the garage as Chris, approach the bike to find a totem on the floor.

Loss Totem #2

[Chapter 2] As Mike, continue along the mine until you reach the exit. On the trail outside, once you've reached a fork in the road (with wooden hand rails), turn to the left instead to find a totem. (Loss Totem #2)

Loss Totem #3

[Chapter 4] While controlling Chris, you'll eventually reach a shack at the end of the trail. Instead of going inside, go around to the right then continue going to the right until the camera switches view to find another totem. (Loss Totem #3) The totem is located on the ground to the left of the third screen.

Loss Totem #4

[Chapter 5] Near the start of Chapter 5, as soon as Mike enters the sanatorium through the vent, there's a barrel he can push to reach the upper walkway. Before doing that, turn around and check out the dead end north of the barrel to find this totem.

Loss Totem #5

[Chapter 9] Now continue along the dark tunnel until you get the prompt to either investigate the voice or rejoin the group. There’s a totem we want to pick up so let’s investigate. Now follow the dark tunnel until you reach a fork. Head to the left outside the current camera view to find a Loss Totem on the ground.

Loss Totem #6

[Chapter 10] Once in control, follow the path to the left until you reach some tracks. After finding the tracks, go to your immediate right to find a Loss Totem.
