The Tempest is your base of operations as you explore the vast reaches of the Andromeda Galaxy. The ship isn’t that large so navigating it won’t be that much of a hassle. However, it will help you a lot in recognizing the ship’s different sections and functions.
The ship has two floors. The upper floor is where you’ll spend most of your time in the ship since the important functions are conveniently placed there. The lower floor are primarily consisted of the crew quarters.
Bridge
This is the command center of the ship, where the resident science officer (Suvi) and the ship’s pilot (Kallo) are found. You can select your destination by interacting with the galaxy map in the middle of the bridge, between Kallo and Suvi.
There’s an escape hatch on one side of the ship (which will become Peebee’s quarters). The loadout station is found across the escape hatch where you can change your character’s loadout and select the party members who will accompany you. There’s also an email terminal behind Suvi that you can use to retrieve messages.
Research Room
This is found in the middle of the ship. The round table has several interactive terminal that gives you access to different functions as follows:
Buy/Sell Kiosk: Used to buy or sell consumables and materialsYou have limited inventory space so getting rid of the duplicates will help freeing much needed inventory space and add some necessary credits for your other needs.
Research and Development: Research gives you access to blueprints that you can unlock and improve by using research points with the corresponding technology. Development allows you to create researched items by spending the specified materials. This is where you can apply augmentations to your Weapons and armor as well.
Strike Team: You can deploy strike teams from this terminal to complete off-screen missions. You can also recover reward boxes obtained from completed strike team missions from this terminal.
AVP Status Control: This terminal allows you to unlock additional, permanent perks. You can also collect the free resources generated by certain time-based perks from this terminal. This is not immediately available early in the game as it will be unlocked automatically as you progress with the story.
Bio Lab
This is connected to the research room and the place where you can find Cora. The interior of the lab will eventually improve as you go through with the story, adding more alien flora and fauna specimens.
Tech Lab
This is where you can find Jaal once he joins your party. Like Cora’s room, there’s nothing much you need to do here.
Meeting Room
This is accessed using the ramps connected to the Research Room. This room is used only during story-related sequences so you won’t be spending too much time in it.
Pathfinder’s Quarters
Directly under the bridge is your own personal quarters. In here, you can change the type and color scheme of your uniform, play background music, access your personal email terminal, and check your collection of various model kits and trophies. At this point, you’ll get an email from Keri T’Vessa requesting for interview when you’re back in the Nexus. (Task: Path of a Hero) There’s another model of an old rocket near your desk.
There’s also a special terminal here that connects you directly to SAM Node. Like the other non-critical sections of the ship, you won’t be spending too much time here unless you have to interact with SAM Node, change your uniform, or activities that can only be performed inside the privacy of your own space.
Medbay
This is where the resident physician, Lexi is residing. This is where you can also access the Re-Spec terminal which will allow you to reset your character’s skill points and allow you to re-allocate them as you see fit. The cost of re-specing will double every time you do it so be considerate when using this feature.
Cargo Bay / Engineering Bay
This is where your Nomad vehicle is stored. This is connected to Vetra and Liam’s personal rooms as well as the Engineering Bay where the ship’s drive is located. This is maintained by the ship’s chief engineer. Aside from the occasional missions that take place in this area, there’s nothing else to check here.
