AVP or Andromeda Viability Points represents your collective and overall colonization efforts in Andromeda. You can earn AVP by scouting planets, establishing alliances, getting rid of threats, repairing environments, and other actions that contribute towards the Initiative’s core vision - making Heleus a better home. You can check your AVP by pressing the Start Menu then press Triangle.
Certain planets have their individual viability rating. These are the potential colony worlds where you have to land, establish outposts, reset vaults, complete missions, etc: Eos, Voeld, Havarl, Kadara, and Elaaden. As you earn AVP on these worlds, a corresponding percentage will be added to the planet’s viability rating. The maximum rating is 100% meaning that the world is already a perfect location for colonization. Additionally, special Cryo Pods (Nexus Level upgrades) will become available as you increase the viability on certain planets.
AVP can be earned in a variety of ways:
There are usually a lot of tasks, assignments, and other activities in a planet to raise the viability over 100% so you don’t need to finish every single one of them if you’re just after 100% viability. However, these still earn you AVP which will level up your Nexus faster and in return, unlock more Cryo pods and enjoy their benefits sooner.
AVP is directly connected to your Nexus Level. As you earn more AVP, your Nexus Level will increase as well. This represents the Initiative’s current ability to support newly awakened colonists. You’ll be able to awaken more colonists from cryo sleep in the form of Cryo Pod Points (CPP). These doesn’t have any direct effect to the story and the perks are immediately applied and are permanent.
Tip: The Nexus level maxes out at 20 so take note that it’s impossible to get all the perks. Prioritize getting those with time-based rewards for a constant flow of items without exploring or working hard for it.
Time-based perks has a default timer of 45 real-time minutes. The timer doesn’t move if you’re in a menu or if the game is paused so if you’re planning to “harvest” these time-based rewards while you’re doing something for example, make sure that you’re in the AVP screen or simply leave Ryder idle. The game will pause as well if your controller Powers off so connect it via USB to prevent this from happening. Also, these rewards are not collected or added to your inventory automatically; you have to collect them by accessing the Cryo Pod Uplink in Nexus Ops or the AVP Status Control console in The Tempest’s Research Room.
