The Haute Job

You’ll see a hot-headed man arguing with a merchant as soon as you enter the town. Once he leaves, continue to the left and open the chest beside the merchant with the red, striped carpet to get a Sweet Syrup from it.

Rest at the inn in case you need to recover your health. Talk to Remy near the inn and answer NO to get some general direction to the kingdoms in the game. Talk to Ruddle to the right and he’ll ask for directions on how to get to Portmith. Answer NORTH.

Continue to the right and enter the shop for a short scene. Talk to Badam and agree to take the job. However, you’ll need to pick some Equipment first.

Before leaving the item shop, you can buy some Skills from the Guildmaster to the left. If you have over 1400F, then I suggest getting all skills. Otherwise, grab Technical 1 since it contains the Knife skill that increases your ATK which is really helpful in the early part of the game. I suggest saving all your SP until you get the Determination skill in Portmith. It lowers the required SP of all the other skills so leveling it up first is a must.

Check also your character’s Talents. If you’re able to grab all the Skill Sets, have the character with Taste Talent to learn at least LV1 of Recipe, Keen Eye and Knife to learn the Specialty skill, Cooking. Buy some ingredients from the food shop just across the item and skill shop and have that character cook some food. This is really helpful since recovery berries are really expensive at this point.

Head back to the weapon master near the town entrance. Agree to take the sword for 20F and the same guy that was arguing with the merchant before will jump to the scene, exposing that the weapon seller is a sham.

Head back to the shop to trigger another scene. You’ll find the guy earlier and introduce himself as Cyuss. He will then agree to accompany you guys to Portmith. You’ll also receive 200F and Permit. You’ll also obtain a Long Sword for Roddick. Make sure to equip it. You can’t give any Equipment to Ilia at the moment so just leave the shop for now.

Enter the house north of Badam’s shop to find a Resurrection Elixir inside the chest. Leave the town through the northwest exit. You can perform another Private Action as well if you want. Like before, follow the mountain path on the world map to reach Mt. Metorx.
