What are Skills?

Skills more depth in the game by allowing players to create items on their own, become more efficient in Combat,, get some permanent stat boosts, and other benefits. When a character learns a combination of skills, they'll be able to learn new Specialties. If several members have learned the same Specialties, they'll unlock Super Specialties (more in this guide).

Where to get Skills?

Unlike other games, your characters won't start off with a complete list of skills that you just need to unlock. In SO:FDR, you need to purchase these skill from skill guilds available throughout almost all towns and cities. Make sure to buy new ones as you encounter them. In each skill guild, you can also talk to the NPCs to learn about the individual skills included in the sets they offer, as well as the recommended skill that you should learn at that point of the game.

How to Learn Skills?

To learn skills, you'll need to spend SP (Skill Points). You'll earn skill points in two ways:

* Leveling up (scaled to your level)

* Unlocking a new Talent (100 SP)

Later in the game, when you have several party members with a combination of Train and Survival Specialties unlocked, you'll have access to the Enlightenment Super Specialty. When you set this super spec to "Practice Enlightenment", all of your party members' stats such as Guts, Hit, AVD, and SPD will be reduced by a certain percentage in exchange for a significant amount of SP that they gain upon leveling up.

When paired with the Train Specialty (team will have reduced stats in exchange for higher EXP gain) or the Counterfeit Medal trick, you'll be able to rack up SP very quickly. It may tough at first but the debuffs will be completely negligible once you have powerful Equipment and maxed out skills to mitigate them.

What Skills Should be Prioritized?

As you level up a skill, its SP cost relatively increases as well. That's why early in the game, it's strongly recommended to avoid spending most of your SP until you get the Determination skill (Sense 2). You should prioritize maxing this skill out as soon as you can since it lowers the SP cost of all skills, including the ones you haven't learned yet.

Max out Determination as soon as possible!

After maxing it out, then you can start leveling up Effort (lowers EXP needed to level up), and Resilience (increases CON by 2 per level) to unlock the Train Specialty. You don't need to max it out early in the game, as long as you can take advantage of it. Slowly level up the Train and Survival Specialties of your party members so you can unlock the Enlightenment Super Specialty.

Once you have those core Specialties and Super Specialty ready, it will be easier to farm and level up, especially if you're planning to employ the Easy EXP Farming trick. (more details in this guide)
