Walkthrough

When you reach the Viridian City Gym after having earned the other seven Gym Badges, you and your Rival will find that the Gym remains locked. With no clue what to do, your Rival will suggest going to talk to Professor Oak back in Pallet Town. When you reach the Lab found in your trainer's hometown, you will come to find Blue is there with Professor Oak. After receiving the Key Stone and a few Mega Stones from Blue - allowing you to now harness the power of Mega Evolutions - Blue will head to the Viridian City Gym to see if he can find out what the hold up is. After he does, the Viridian City Gym will then become accessible to you.

The Viridian City Gym contains many Moving Tile Puzzles, much like the ones found back in the Rocket Hideout. Because of this, odds are you will battle most of the Trainers within the Gym. When it comes to trainers found within this Pokemon Gym, all of them will specialize in using Ground Type Pokemon. This includes the Viridian City Gym Leader, which just so happens to be Team Rocket Boss Giovanni. After defeating him at Silph Co, Giovanni has retreated back to his post as the Viridian City Gym Leader, hoping to rebuild Team Rocket as he does. Defeating him here will see Team Rocket disband for good, as well as earn you the Earth Badge and TM41.
