Just like in Pokemon GO, every Pokemon Evolution Chain has its own specific type of Pokemon Candy within this game. Species Candy is different from other forms of Pokemon Candy in the way that it will boost all of the Stats of a Pokemon that belongs to that specific Evolution Chain. For example, Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur will have all of its stats increased by one point if given the Bulbasaur Candy. Because just one Species Candy raises all of the stats of a Pokemon that belongs to a given Evolution Chain by one point, so much less of it is needed to maximize a Pokemon's Stats.

In order to farm Species Candy of a specific type of Pokemon, you can actually do a few things. The first is catch loads of that species in the Wild, with you earning more and more of that Pokemon's Candy the higher Catch Combo of that Pokemon you obtain. The second, believe it or not, is by releasing the extra Pokemon of that species that you don't need. For every 50 Pokemon of a species your release, you will obtain one Species Candy for that specific Evolution Chain. You can also obtain Species Candy by walking with a Pokemon (the one you want to obtain Species Candy for) in the Poke Ball Plus.
