How to User Problem Steps Recorder (PSR) for Troubleshooting

Problem Steps Recorder is a brilliant application built in Windows 7. This tool allows the user to record steps in replicating problems such as buttons pressed, tabs, name of the application etc. It also captures screenshots of the steps taken. These are compiled and exported as an MHTML file to a location you can specify.

This tool helps for both users and technical support personnel troubleshooting an issue by providing step-by-step reconstruction of the events leading to the problem. It saves a lot of time instead of describing everything via text.

Click Start then type “psr” without the quotes

The Problem Steps Recorder will appear.

Press Start Record and do the steps you want to recorded.

Once recording is done, press Stop Record. You will be asked where you want to save the zip file

You can open the zip file to check the mhtml file. You can then send this mhtml file to your support personnel who is troubleshooting your issue. (An mhtmnl file can be opened using an internet browser)
