In this guide, we have covered normal Subquests. Halfway through the game, you’ll gain access to Training Ground Subquests. These special subquests will pit you against your own einherjars to test their mettle and yours. In our Training Ground Subquests guide, we will provide an overview and general strategy on how to clear these subquests.

Valkyrie Elysium is the latest title of the renowned Valkyrie series. Play as the Valkyrie as she purifies the land from evil in a collapsing world as Ragnarok looms. Summon the souls of chosen warriors called Einherjars to assist you in combat and unleash the power of Divine Arts to smite your foes.

Overview

Training Subquests are special subquests that will become available after completing Chapter 6. These will take place in Asgard where you’ll have to train your einherjars in a one-on-one fight. Make no mistake however, these fights are incredibly challenging, even if you have high stats and unlocked high-tier divine arts. Your einherjars will have access to special skill sets and will be able to use unblockable attacks.

Your main issue about these battles is your Divine Art gauge recharge rate. Your einherjars will always be on the move, making it quite challenging to chain your combos and build your Divine Art gauge efficiently. That’s why it’s recommended to have Tier 1 and Tier 2 divine arts so you can have means of activating temporary invulnerability. Heal is a must-have while T1 elemental arts can help you build the crush gauge since Einherjars also have elemental weaknesses.

The combat style of your einherjars will also determine the strategy you’ll use against them. Thankfully, you can divide them into two styles: Melee and Ranged. Kristoffer and Eygon fall in the first style while Cypher and Taika fall to the latter. Out of the two, it’s surprisingly easier to deal with Ranged characters since they’ll prioritize moving away before attacking. Aggressively pursuing and attacking them is rewarded since you can interrupt their attacks. Sure they have melee attacks as well but the damage is not as devastating if they manage to pull off their ranged attacks or spells.

On the other hand, melee characters are incredibly hard to deal with since they’re quite aggressive. At the same time, they can perform nasty combos and can easily break your guard as well. As such, it’s going to be a bad idea to actively chase or attack relentlessly on equal footing. You have to keep your guard up by moving around and using your reversal moves whenever you can to activate slow-motion and generate healing particles as well. Avoid using slow weapons like polearms/spears unless you’re very comfortable with the timing of their attacks and reversals.

In general, the most effective method of dealing consistent damage is through aerial combos. If you’re comfortable with launching your opponents in the air and following up quickly using your Soul Chain, you’ll have an effective way of landing free hits without any fear of retaliation since they lack any aerial recovery moves. The Gagnrathr seems to be a generally effective weapon against them as well since the aerial Sonic Edge can still hit them even if they try to move away from you.

Training Ground Subquest List

Like other subquests, there’s no time limit for completing Training Ground subquests. If you feel that you’re extremely struggling with an opponent, it’s okay to set these subquests aside then try them again once you have access to higher stats and upgraded weapons.

We have listed the einherjars below based on their difficulty, with the strongest/ most-challenging on the top. (Your experience may vary depending on your skill level and overall progress in the game)

* Kristoffer

* Eygon

* Cypher

* Taika

Subquest Rewards
Combat Training for Taika Fire Storm III, Arts Gauge Restoration Boost III
A Bout with Kristoffer Grave Edge III, Soul Gauge Restoration Boost III
Advice for Cypher Hail Shot III, Magic Boost III
Training Duel with Eygon Lightning III, Magic Damage Reduction III

Thankfully, the rewards are not difficulty or rating-based. As long as you defeat your opponent, you’ll get all the rewards available for that subquest. Normally, your grade at the end of a quest is determined primarily by the amount of damage taken and number of items used. If you’re not really aiming for all Grade S’s in all your Subquests to make them “look nice”, don’t hesitate to use items as necessary when you’re struggling. Items can be collected repeatedly by clearing other subquests so you practically have unlimited supplies.
