How to Defeat Hilde (2nd Encounter)

Your first encounter with Hilde, the Dark Valkyrie, occurs in Chapter 2 - shortly after recruiting the first Einherjar (Eygon). Hilde serves as the antagonist in Valkyrie Elysium. She’s a very formidable foe, capable of unleashing quick, powerful attacks as well as various nefarious tricks and techniques that will definitely test the skills of Valkyrie and her einherjars. In this page, we will discuss the strategy in fighting off Hilde during our second encounter with her which happens around Chapter 4.

Valkyrie Elysium is the latest title of the renowned Valkyrie series. Play as the Valkyrie as she purifies the land from evil in a collapsing world as Ragnarok looms. Summon the souls of chosen warriors called Einherjars to assist you in combat and unleash the power of Divine Arts to smite your foes.

In this battle, Hilde will be joined by a clone. You can easily identify Hilde's doppelganger by looking at the glowing purple portions on the front of her helmet. While you're engaging her double, Hilde will pepper you with ranged attacks and even perform nasty combos that will eat through your HP. As such, it will be advantageous for you to summon both Cypher and Eygon to keep one of the busy while you engage the other. It will be a great idea to take out the doppelganger first since it has a lower HP pool and will get destroyed quickly through focused/ coordinated attacks. Once her double is done, the battle will significantly turn towards your favor.

Hilde is still weak against light-element skills so Grave Edge can still work though its damage potential may not be ideal. She’s still as agile and hard-to-hit as ever but as long as you use your soul chain often to close the distance, you should be able to land a few successful hits on every attempt. She also has an annoying warp skill where she vanishes briefly in a dark portal and will reappear overhead to smash downwards with her weapon. To quickly avoid this attack, just step away once you see her enter the said portal.

Don’t bother blocking her combo since she can easily break your guard. It’s ideal to focus on evading her attacks and combos, then restoring your HP using Heal or items as necessary. If you manage to corner her, you can reliably air-juggle her (depending on the equipped weapon) and/or use strong attacks to send her flying or even break her stance. Like before, use your soul chain regularly to keep up with her movements; otherwise, you’ll lose the momentum and end up suffering higher damage instead.
