Combat Training for Taika

Combat Training for Taika will pit you against your powerful flame mage Einherjar, Taika for a friendly sparring match. In our Combat Training for Taika guide, we will provide an overview and general strategy on how to clear this Training Ground Subquest.

Valkyrie Elysium is the latest title of the renowned Valkyrie series. Play as the Valkyrie as she purifies the land from evil in a collapsing world as Ragnarok looms. Summon the souls of chosen warriors called Einherjars to assist you in combat and unleash the power of Divine Arts to smite your foes.

As a ranged character, Taika will prioritize moving away from you which will give you plenty of opportunities to catch up using your Soul Chain and even launching her into an aerial combo. Don’t let her have the opportunity to finish her spell chant since she’s very capable of unleashing devastating spells. The best way to interrupt her is using your Soul Chain to close the distance as soon as she starts manifesting magical circles.

Taika is weak against Ice but since you can’t summon Cypher to imbue your weapon with that element, you have no choice but to rely on your ice-based Divine Arts to build her crush gauge. Since you’ll have issues refilling your Divine Art gauge, I suggest using Tier 1 or Tier Divine Arts so that you can cast them to interrupt her or have some “emergency” invulnerability when casting.

Next, let’s discuss Taika’s various attacks. She can fire off several Fire Lances as a standard mid to long range attack. She also has an AoE fire blast that can knock you back if you get hit. Try to double jump then Soul Chain at her so you can immediately counterattack.

She’ll perform her melee attacks whenever her left arm is aflame so make sure to avoid charging at her at that time since she’ll be quite hard to interrupt. She also has a standard melee attack using her staff but if you time it right, that’s the perfect time to perform a reversal on her to get some free healing particles. It is also possible for you to counter her unblockable attack as long as you get the timing right.

If she covers herself with a flame shield while chanting a spell, you can either stay away or aggressively attack her. If you manage to break the flame shield with powerful attacks and combos, this will stun Taika, leaving her open for a few seconds. Use that chance to land some easy hits and combos.

The Gagnrathr seems to be very effective against her since the aerial Sonic Edge (aerial light blades) can still hit her even if they try to move away from you or if she gets pushed back by your combo. Just perform a continuous assault on her using the tactics discussed above.

Completing this subquest will award you with Fire Storm III (Divine Art) and Arts Gauge Restoration Boost III (Rune)
