Nagalfr are hideous abominations from transformed souls. However, special souls give birth to even more powerful nagalfrs. They serve as chapter bosses in the game and will really test Valkyrie and her party’s mettle at that point. Additionally, certain main nafalgr bosses turn into einherjars, which is the case for at least two of the earliest allies Valkyrie can recruit.
The first major nagalfr you’ll encounter is Eygon. In this page, we will discuss the strategies on how to defeat this boss. You can also find our YouTube video to see what the actual combat looks like.
Valkyrie Elysium is the latest title of the renowned Valkyrie series. Play as the Valkyrie as she purifies the land from evil in a collapsing world as Ragnarok looms. Summon the souls of chosen warriors called Einherjars to assist you in combat and unleash the power of Divine Arts to smite your foes.

When preparing for this battle, it’s recommended to equip the Grave Edge I skill that you’ll get in the same chapter. Eygon is a dark-element nafalgr so using the Grave Edge (light element) will deal higher damage and build up his Crush gauge. Furthermore, this skill allows Valkyrie to charge forward, which helps with her mobility as well. Of course, having Heal I in one of your skill slots is always recommended.
Eygon’s weak spot is the bright purple orb in the middle of his chest. The spot in front of that orb is somewhat a blind spot but Eygon can easily counter by using its inner arms. Nevertheless, Eygon has a wide and long attack range, thanks to his oversized sword. A great opportunity to counterattack is right after Eygon swings his sword. Use your Soul Chain to close the distance almost instantly and land some attacks. It’s also easier to hit him with Grave Edge at point-blank range to ensure that the Crush gauge is getting built up.
Eygon also has some ranged attacks at his disposal. The first two attacks can be avoided by double-jumping. The homing projectiles can be avoided by delaying your mid-air jump in a double jump.
Finally, this boss also has a charging attack where it will just run towards you to run you down and a jump-stomp attack that generates a localized, short-distance shockwave. These attacks can be avoided by simply getting out of the way. To keep the offensive, use Soul Chain to get close, use Grave Edge to deal elemental damage, and identify the boss’ visual cues tied to its moves so you can properly avoid its attacks.
Use items ONLY if you really need them since item usage has a direct effect on your post-level evaluation. If you have Heal equipped, it’s always a great idea to reserve at least one Art Gauge diamond available for this skill, in case of emergencies.
