Your pokemon has six different statistics, or stats for short. Their values will define your Pokemon’s overall combat ability. The basic stats are the following:
- HP – Hit points. HP determines how much damage your Pokemon can take. If it reaches 0, your Pokemon will faint and will not be able to battle. The Pokemon can be revived by either taking it to the Pokemon Center, have select NPC heal it or by using an item.
- Attack – Physical attack stat. This determines how effective and powerful the Pokemon’s physical attacks will be. You may check the Pokemon's moves individually to know if it is a physical or special attack.
- Defense – Physical defense stat. This determines how resilient your Pokemon will be against physical attacks.
- Sp. Atk – Special Attack stat. This determines how how effective and powerful the Pokemon’s special attacks will be..\ You may check the Pokemon's moves individually to know if it is a physical or special attack.
- SP. Def – Special defense stat. This determines how resilient your Pokemon will be against special attacks.
- Speed – This determines how quickly your Pokemon can act in battle. The Pokemon with the higher Speed will act first when facing an opponent with lower speed.
Different types of Pokemon have different growth rates; even same Pokemon of the same level may have different stats. The growth rate of stats will depend on the underlying set of stats called base stats. Each of the six stats described above will have their own base stat. pokemon y has a new feature that will allow trainers to raise the base stats easily than before. This feature is called Super Training.
