The character of Sideshow Bob has some interesting History in the show -- and he may end up having an even more interesting history in Tapped Out if the rumors that have been making the rounds in the last few months turn out to be true...

Rumors: There have been rumors that that ever-challenging escape expert Sideshow Bob will be bringing more to Tapped Out in 2014 than simply his irascible self -- you see the rumors are that Bob will be getting his own series of Missions and Quests!

Honestly we hope that the rumors turn out to be true, because wouldn't that be great?

Sideshow Bob

The first appearance of Sideshow Bob in your game is always one of the high-points and a great memory for new players - especially for players who had no idea that he could appear!

Bob is a rather unique non-player-character in that while there is nothing in the game that warns you about it, his capture has some decidedly positive effects on your game in the form of a small increase to the Righteousness Level of your Conform-O-Meter -- but here is the thing... FAILING to capture him has a much larger NEGATIVE effect on that same Righteousness Meter!

After you have reached Level 6 there is a 10% chance that Sideshow Bob will appear in your town each time that you log into the game or return to your town from visiting your Neighbors, or Krustyland - and if he DOES appear, you want to make it a point to always capture him.

Not only is there a chance that he will appear in your town, he can also appear in your Neighbor's towns - but it is not clear whether there are consequences if you fail to catch Bob when he appears in your Neighbor towns. To be on the safe side though, we always try to capture him!

Who is Sideshow Bob?

The answer to this question depends a lot upon who is doing the asking - and why...

If you open the pouch at the Springfield Hospital for the Criminally Insane and withdraw Bob's wallet, and then take his SAG Card (Screen Actor's Guild Union Membership ID Card) you will find that his real name is Robert Underdunk Terwilliger, Jr., but if course his fans know him best as Sideshow Bob.

His die-hard fans know that he came by the name “Sideshow Bob” while working for another entertainer, Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofski -- better known to his legion of fans aged 5 to 95 as one Krusty the Clown!

It seems that Krusty gave Bob his name -- and Bob hates that name -- when he needed to have a name in order to be Krusty's sidekick on the very popular children's show - and so Sideshow Bob was the name, and the name was Sideshow Bob!

While in persona as Sideshow Bob he is an average clown's companion and sidekick, but once the makeup is removed and Robert Terwilliger, Jr. emerges, the transformation is complete in more ways than one because in addition to being a well-spoken genius, Terwilliger is an active and outspoken member of the Republican Party, a champion of high culture, a student of epistemology, an epicurean, and ironically one of the top-ten criminal masterminds that the FBI has ever faced!

After suffering one-too-many pies in the face at the hands of Krusty the Clown, Bob arranges to frame Krusty for a crime that he did not commit, and would have succeeded in sending Krusty off to a lengthy term in prison if not for the detective work of one of Krusty's fans -- Bartholomew JoJo "Bart" Simpson, and his sister Lisa Marie Simpson -- who together unraveled the details behind the framing of Krusty and eventually exposed Sideshow Bob as the actual culprit.

A disturbing element in all of this is the relationship once enjoyed by Terwilliger and the Simpson family in that after his conviction and incarceration, Terwilliger became pen-pals with Selma Bouvier (a woman who astute fans of the series and game will doubtlessly recall is the aunt of Bart Simpson), and that relationship developed into “love” with Selma Bouvier and Robert Terwilliger, Jr. marrying shortly after he was eventually released from prison.

That means that Robert Terwilliger, Jr., in addition to being Bart's arch-nemesis, was briefly also his Uncle! We say briefly because the marriage was eventually annulled, and thanks to Bart Terwilliger again ended up behind bars.

It seems that Bart Simpson not once but twice unraveled the brilliant (ask him, he will tell you they were very brilliant plans!) criminal plans, which in addition to causing Terwilliger to end up in prison but also affirming Bart Simpson's position as the arch-nemesis of both Robert Terwilliger, Jr. AND Sideshow Bob - basically Bart is to Bob what Moriarty is to Sherlock Holmes.

Throughout the long and continuing History of The Simpsons TV Show Sideshow Bob has enjoyed a particularly notable presence and, thanks to coincidences like his brother moving to town and being breifly mistaken by Bart for being Sideshow Bob, has even featured in episodes in which he could not possibly have been present thanks to his lengthy sentence.

In terms of Tapped Out however, it seems that the Prison/Hospital in which Bob is currently serving his sentence has really bad locks... Otherwise how do you explain his constant presence in both your own and your Neighbor's Springfields?

This pretty much nicely sums up The Story of Robert Underdunk Terwilliger, Jr. who is AKA Sideshow Bob -- but then if the rumors turn out to be true and he gets his own set of Missions / Quests, you can expect this page (and others) to be vastly expanded over the course of the next few years - just saying!
