4th of July 2014 Event

2 July 2014

Just as the Stonecutter Event is winding down as Tappers log in on July 2nd they get a on-the-fly game Update that instantly adds a new dialogue event to the game in which Homer attempts to purchase fireworks from Apu - who is normally a solid source for that particular special celebratory item - only to learn that they have been made illegal and thus unobtainable!

The conclusion of this dialogue spawns the first mission - and welcomes you to the 2014 4th of July Event!

With the workshop completed and Giuseppe added to your Springfield, Homer approaches and asks that he make the biggest fireworks he can manage to make - as Lisa volunteers to help out! This multi-tasker requires that you have completed Building Springfield Elementary School (which requires you to get to Level 9) first.

Declaration of Co-Dependence Pt. 3

Washington needs to keep his mind occupied while he waits to be sent back home - and a great little mental and emotional exercise would be planning the invasion of Britain! Of course remember that in Washington's era Germany was not a nation, it was a bunch of city-states, and the United Kingdom was not so much United as it was the Trying to Get Along Kingdom - so an invasion really might work!

Declaration of Co-Dependence Pt. 4

And here we have proof that sometimes delusions are functional! Washington knows that the situation has changed, he can see horseless carriages al around him, and yet he is still willing to invest time, energy and the risk of life for that silly plan of his!

Recruit an Army (24h) $1,000 and 225 XP.

It seems that door-to-door recruiting for the whole build an army idea is not working out quite the way that Washington thought it would. Heck, he should try selling vacuum cleaners that way!

Declaration of Co-Dependence Pt. 6

It seems that Washington has a very bad case of cognitive dissonance in dealing with the friendship and praise of the citizens of Springfield. On the one hand he rather likes how the Grand Experiment in Democracy actually worked out, but on the other he finds the willingness of the typical if well-edumacated persons to be rather odd and disturbing!

Flee Admirers (16h) $750 and 200 XP.

President Lincoln is eager to get back to his own time and get back to what he feels is his most important jobs - ending the war and then rebuilding the nation. Honest Abe Pt. 6

Ooohhkaayyy did not see that coming! So the 16th President of the United States - Honest Abraham - was actually a man that was seriously concerned with his own safety and long life??

US President Lyndon Johnson (36th President of the USA) is widely quoted as having said that: "Being president is like being a jackass in a hailstorm. There's nothing to do but to stand there and take it."

I buy that! So for this mission you need to complete the following Tasks:

Honest Abe Pt. 8

It seems that President Lincoln is not the man that the History books praise him as being - and more to the point, that he has very little interest in returning to his timeline and suffering the fate he now knows - thanks to Lisa Simpson - awaits him. Personally I think it would have been better all the way around if she had kept her mouth shut, but hey, that's me!

For his part Honest Abe has decided that now - before Frink has the chance to figure out how to send him and Jorge back to their times - would be a really good time to cut and run!

The Rocket's Red Glare Redux Pt. 5

While it is always nice to experience a community come together to make things happen, a community banding together in order to break the law? Well that is actually rather disturbing... Thankfully cooler heads - and smarter brains - will almost always prevail!

Just as Federal Agent Rex Banner is about to arrest local convenience store guru Apu for violations of the fireworks laws, Lisa trots out an old law from back when the community was founded that - this will of course blow your mind - makes the manufacture and sale of fireworks perfectly Legal - well, sort of...

"I've just found an old town law from 1803 which expressly permits “the sale and detonation of pyrotechnic devices for one month following June 4," Lisa reveals.

"What's so special about the Fourth of June?" Rex demands.

"June 4th was King George III of England's birthday," Lisa explains. "We've always been America's cowards."

Now THAT makes perfect sense! And it gets everybody out of trouble!

Rex: Eat a Banana Kaboom (4h) $260 and 70 XP.

Of course completing this part of the mission does require that you have Rex obviously :) The Banana Kaboom is a type of desert - I can only presume that it is a lot like one that my wife makes that we call "Strawberry Train Wreck" here at Chez Boots-Faubert.

There is a story there - one day many years ago she set out to make a desert called Strawberry Angel Food Surprise - which is supposed to be a doughnut-shaped Angel Food Cake (mmmm, doughnuts!) that is covered in Strawberries and Strawberry nectar, then Whipped Cream. Except that for whatever reason it did not turn out quite the way it looked in the cookbook - hence the name, Strawberry Train Wreck!
