Controller Options
As with most button-mashing Fighting Type Games, specifically with the Tekken Gaming Series, the controller is the single most vital element towards success. But unlike many of those other games, you actually have a total of not one, but FIVE possible controller options that are all compatible with Pokken Tournament. On top of that, a player has the access in their My Town Profile to adjust the button mapping on their choice of controller to better enhance their comfortability and success.
However, there are a number of restrictions with the controllers:
First, the primary controller will always be the controller you exit the title screen with, so be prepared with the controller you want at that time.
Second, in Local Battles, Player 1 will ALWAYS have to use the Wii U GamePad while Player 2 can choose any controller they wish. This is mainly due to each player needed their own perspective of viewing the screen (Player 1 on the Wii U Pad and Player 2 on the television). However, this can be overridden by using LAN Battles.
Compatible Controllers & Features:
Wii U Pad
Allows a player to view the game on their GamePad.
Wii Remote w/Nunchuk
Since it has less Buttons, you can't instantly reset the Phase.
Classic Controller
Since requires a Wii Remote for Connection.
Wii U Pro Controller
No special features.
Pokken Pro Controller
Created specifically for Pokken Tournament for Wii U. It is a wired USB Controller, which removes the latency and interference from wireless controllers. Since it is a USB Wired Controller, you must have a spare USB Port on your Wii U and only one Pokken Pro Controller can be used at all times. It is the perfect controller, because of these features, for Pokken Tournament.
