Appendix A: Obtaining Genesect

As the games mature the powers that be in Pokemon Land have changed their approach towards the legendary Pokemon and the traditional event-only distribution system.  In the case of Pokemon Black/White 2 this change is brought home by the distribution of a Legendary Pokemon literally from the start of the game – as the Legendary Genesect was made available from day 1 through the online Mystery Gift distribution system called the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.  The free distribution of this mythical Pokemon is intended to mark the celebration of the launch of Pokemon Black/White 2.

Genesect is a new Pokemon that was modifed by Team Plasma after they restored it from a 300 million year old Fossil form.  There are no special requirements beyond the requirement that you claim this Legendary before its timer expires – which means claiming yours between October 7th and November 12th 2012.

To claim your Genesect you will need to have already set up your Dsi/3DS to connect to the Internet via your local WiFi connection – if you need help doing that, refer to the manual from your Dsi/3DS for instructions.  With your device set up to access the net, load the game and select MYSTERY GIFT from the Main Menu, then select RECEIVE GIFT and then confirm it by selecting YES.  Select GET VIA NINTENDO WFC, and confirm that with YES.

At this point the connection will be established and the Mystery Gift Wonder Card will begin being transferred – you will actually see Genesect being transferred to your system in the same way that Pokemon Trades complete, with the Pokemon passing through the network connection.  The difference however is that with Mystery Gift/Wonder Cards you do not actually receive the Pokemon, you have to collect it via the delivery boy in one of the Pokemon Centers in the game.

The delivery boy can be spotted by the distinct green hat that they wear.  Simply walk up to them and talk to them to receive your Legendary Genesect; once that is complete be sure to save your game and voila! 

A few things to bear in mind – the P2 Lab in the game is where you go to convert fossils to Pokemon, but that cannot be accessed until after you complete the main story and have obtained your entry into the Hall of Fame.  The other important thing for you to bear in mind is that you can only receive this special Pokemon ONCE in Pokemon Black 2, and ONCE in Pokemon White 2.
