There are a lot of activities that you can do in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. Almost every little that you can do can correspond to a skill that can be raised, and this includes talking to the Residents! There are a lot of skills available, and you’ll get benefits from raising them too.

In this guide, we’ll check how skills work, and the benefits of maximizing the skills. Knowing more about what the skills can provide you will help out on which ones you want to focus on. So, let’s check which skills are available in the game.


What are Skills?

When starting out in your farm, you’ll notice that performing the activities in order to clear your land as well as sowing seeds will let you learn skills as well as Titles that will let you know about your success. Skills are things that you do based on your activities. For example, chopping Trees down in order to clear your land increases your logging skill, and smashing Rocks with your Hammer increases your mining skill.

You can view the different skills that you have acquired so far in your player notebook. The list of skills will be shown there, as well as the level progression. Each level that you unlock will provide you with specific beneficial traits, and they can also unlock Crafting Recipes for you.

Logging Skills

Use the axe to cut down trees and stumps. Logging will also yield wood materials

Logging refers to the activity that you do whenever you are using your Axe. On your farm, Trees will grow constantly and they can provide you with materials such as logs which can be processed into lumber. For every tree you chop down, you’ll gain experience for logging. Chopping stomps down will also provide experience.

In order to maximize your logging skills, you’ll simply need to keep chopping Trees consistently. As you increase your logging skills, you’ll be more efficient with striking the tree down. It would be handy for you to upgrade your Axe as well in order to chopping faster.

Reaping Skills

Use the sickle to cut wild grasses. Cutting grass will also yield usable grass materials.

Reaping refers to you clearing the wild grass or weeds that can grow around your farm. Using your Sickle tool, you strike down the grass and gain them as materials. You can then use them in order to create other materials such as Fodder, or they can be processed into other Crafting items.

Improving your Reaping skill will require you to clear grass often. However, grass doesn’t grow all the time so this can take time. Maximize your stamina usage and number of grass you can cut by upgrading your Sickle.

Mining Skills

Use the hammer to break rocks. Mining rocks will also yield ores and jewels.

Mining refers to you breaking Rocks and Ore Veins in order to get Raw Materials, Ores, and jewels. On your far, there are occasional rocks that can be found that can block your land. Once they have been cleared out, you’d want to visit the Mines instead and go down different floors.

Improving your Mining skill will let you be more efficient with destroying Rocks, and eventually you’ll get better materials. It would be a good idea to increase your stamina by getting a Shrine blessing.

Draining Skills

Use the bucket to scoop water. Scooping water will yield materials like clay.

Draining refers to removing water from pools of water using your Bucket. Eventually, you’ll be able to learn how to Craft the Suction Pump as well which can remove water in bigger volumes. Whenever you drain water from these pools of water, you’ll be able to find Treasure that can be submitted to the Olive Museum.

Draining puddles using the Bucket also lets you gain materials such as clay. Therefore, you’ll have different uses for draining, whether you’ll want to focus on getting clay or uncovering Treasure after rainy days.

Fishing Skills

Use the fishing rod by rivers and the ocean. One day you might land a legendary catch!

Fishing as the name implies, refers to the activity of catching Fish and other sea creatures using your Fishing Rod. As you upgrade your fishing rod and get better types of fish, you’ll want to improve your fishing skill in order to reel them easier.

Getting to reduce your stamina consumption, and make reeling more stable is one of the benefits of increasing your fishing skill.

Fieldwork Skills

Use the hoe to till fields and sow seeds. Fully-grown field crops can be harvested.

Fieldwork refers to the skills that you do when tending to your land and sowing seeds. These include tilling soil with your Hoe, sowing seeds, and watering them using the Watering Can. All of these activities belong to the fieldwork category.

Improving your fieldwork is important since they will help out with the harvest of your Crops. By managing your stamina, you’ll be able to tend to more seeds, and eventually you’ll have more possible field crops to sell for Money.

Orcharding refers to the activity of growing Trees and harvesting their Crops. This skill is one of the trickier ones to maximize since trees grow slowly. In order to maximize the crops that you can get from your trees, improving your orcharding will help out in increasing their quality.

With getting better quality Tree Crops will help you earn more Money in addition to the field Crops that you get, and you’ll be even able to get more yields.

Cultivating Skills

Cultivating refers to growing of Mushroom Spores on logs in order for you to harvest them. Being able to grow more Mushrooms and getting higher quality can be done by improving your cultivation. In order to maximize this skill, you’ll have to make sure that you are growing mushrooms all the time when possible.

Once you have better Mushrooms, they can be sold, provided as Gifts, or even be used for Cooking. Since there aren’t much logs for mushrooms, you’ll have to passively maximize this skill.

There are items such high quality eggs and milk, and they can only be acquired by improving your Animal care. By improving this skill, you’ll be able to get higher profits, as well as Gifts that are loved by Residents.
