Leader of the Icepack

Hunting Quest: Hunt a Great Baggi

Reward: 1400z
Contract: 100z

Time: 50 min.
Area: Tundra
Unstable Environment

Subquest A: Wound Great Baggi's head
Reward: 400z

Subquest B: Stun Great Baggi
Reward: 400z

The Great Baggi is the alpha version of the Baggi. Much like the Great Jaggi is to the Jaggi, the Great Baggi is bigger, stronger and faster than the Baggi. Compared to the Great Jaggi, the Great Baggi is stronger and has more health, but has a similar move set and is similar in size and appearance. He shares with the Baggi a sleep-inducing projectile attack, the effects of which can be cured by taking damage or by using an Energy Drink.

Since you've conquered much more fearsome foes, the Great Baggi presents little challenge to you at this stage of the game. You've undoubtedly graduated from the Sword & Shield to a heftier weapon type by now. Almost any weapon type will do for this quest, although it is best to choose something that will allow you to move around a bit -- such as the Great Sword, Switch Axe, or Hammer -- rather than a Lance, which would force you into blocking most of the Great Baggi's attacks. The Great Baggi is weakest to fire, so choose a weapon that deals fire damage if one is available, such as the Plume Flint Hammer.

The Supply Box contains the usual Map, Rations and First-aid Meds, as well as two Energy Drinks and an EZ Flashbomb. Collect the aforementioned items from the Supply Box and then set out to Area 1.

Great Baggi, meet Great Sword.

The Great Baggi is in Area 7 to start, but will soon make his way to either Area 2 or Area 3. This is where Cha-Cha's Fluffy Mask comes in handy. If Cha-Cha isn't wearing his Fluffy Mask, your best bet is to wait in Area 2 for the Great Baggi to appear, possibly checking Area 3 if you're standing around for more than a minute and a half.

The environment for this quest is unstable, which means you may very well encounter a Gigginox in the cave areas 4 and 7. The Great Baggi will limp into Area 7 when he is low on health, so remain vigilant.

Wounding the Great Baggi's head requires a bit more work than wounding the Great Jaggi's. Good opportunities to get some hits in on the Great Baggi's head is when you first encounter him, as he is transitioning into rage mode, as well as when he is standing on the spot shaking his head and roaring with a drooling mouth, indicating he is low on stamina.

To complete Subquest B, which requires stunning the Great Baggi, you must attack his head with an weapon that deals impact damage. The absolute best weapon type for completing Subquest B is the Hammer, as it deals nothing but impact damage. Certain attacks by other weapon types deal impact damage, such as the Great Sword's slap (press X twice or push up on the Right Stick twice, depending on the control scheme you have set). Don't worry too much about completing this subquest if you aren't using a Hammer.

Slay the Great Baggi to complete the quest. His corpse can be carved three times.

This mission introduced me to the Hammer after a lot of SnS using. Personally, I find it to be quite reliable. Still might use the SnS for the faster monsters, though.

I agree the sns can pump out loads of damage, the raw damage is lower, but the elem and attack speed are both through the roof.
