In some missions, you’ll get an option to complete Sub Mission. These are optional yet important objectives that are not necessarily required to secure a victory but does give you great rewards upon completion. Some of the rewards include better tactical execution leading to an easier time completing the mission, item and money rewards, Chest Key Drops, recruit allied units good for the current battle, and even a free Support Rank boost between a specific character and all current combatants in your army.

You’ll get a notification when a Sub-Mission becomes available and the units/ locations of interest will be marked in the Map. In the later chapters of the Story Mode or higher level maps of History Mode, these sub-missions will trigger one after another, making it difficult to track them individually. Since they’re optional, sub missions won’t stay permanently active for the duration of the mission. That said, make sure to treat it with urgency and aim for its completion as soon as you can.

One good practice is to pause the game every once in a while and review the battle logs. You also want to know what sub-mission to prioritize. For example, if a sub-mission for capturing forts becomes active but there’s another one about a moving enemy unit that may call in reinforcements, you should dedicate a unit to take out the enemy scout first before concentrating on capturing the forts. Another example is when there’s a sub-mission for eliminating an enemy that keeps summoning reinforcements. While it’s tempting to farm exp and materials from a bunch of enemies, ignoring the targets and rushing to the real target to stop it from calling in more reinforcements will increase your team’s survivability and also reap you useful rewards as mentioned above.
