This is an extra mode in the game where you’ll probably spend the most time playing. History Mode takes you to various maps based on some earlier games of the series. Each Map has various enemy icons which will take you to various missions with sometimes unique and useful rewards like additional master seals, unique or more powerful weapons, healing items, mementos, crest materials, etc. The best reward however, will be the weapon scrolls which will allow you to unlock the full potential of exclusive weapons. Furthermore, if you availed the DLCs, you can also get these weapons’ Opuses from the new maps which will boost their attack rating up to 720 points.

Missions take place in the maps you encountered in the main story mode though there will be varying mission types, some of which will have deployment limit and restrictions. These restrictions are lifted after completing the mission once. It’s also worth noting that some maps have S-rank requirements

There are also new characters that will be unlocked in History Mode. The default unlockable characters are Anna, Lyn, and Celica. DLC characters will be unlocked automatically in History Mode as soon as you download and install their corresponding DLCs.

Deploy Limit and Restrictions

Some missions will have various restrictions such as:

  • Weapons - You can only use characters of the required weapon type.
  • Story - You can only use characters from specific stories. Neutral characters such as Lianna, Rowan, and Anna can still be deployed with this restriction active.
  • Movement - This can either be mounted or unmounted.

Map Completion

To complete a History Mode Map, you have to reach the boss icon and successfully complete the mission. They’ll be normally protected by their minions which will require you clear their missions first before they get grayed out in the map and give you more movement range.

Sometimes, there are also obstacles protecting the boss. These obstacles are tied to specific enemy icons so clearing these missions will effectively remove the obstacles they’re controlling. Enemy reinforcements will also arrive after clearing specific enemy icons which are meant to hinder your progress to reach the boss. You’re not required to clear each and every one of the enemy icons to reach the boss.

Post-Clear

After successfully clearing the boss icon mission, any unfinished enemy icons in the Map will be undisturbed. However, new high-leveled and challenging missions will appear in the form of time-space portals. These missions are significantly harder but mostly with better rewards like weapon scrolls. Some of them however will have specific conditions before you can play them like the following:

  • Story Mode progress
  • Clearing all missions with S-rank
  • Clearing the boss battle in the Map with an S-rank

S-Rank Requirements

After the battle, you’ll be graded for your performance. The common criteria are the following:

  • Clear Time: 15:00 minutes below
  • Enemies Defeated: Minimum of 2,000 KO
  • Damage Taken: Not more than 80% (shared by two players when in split-screen mode)

This will change on some game mode like in Timed Onslaught where you won’t get evaluated for time completion or in Arena where you have no time limit and the required KO count is only 17.

History Mode Tips

  1. Prioritize clearing missions that unlock Master Seals. You’ll need more powerful units to clear harder missions, especially those with weapon or character restrictions.
  2. Low level Timed Onslaught and Gold Rush missions are perfect for raking up easy kills for unlocking weapon attributes because of their short mission time and the abundance of enemies and officer units that drop awakening potions.
  3. Next, try to complete the memento missions to gain access to even more better blessings.
  4. History Mode maps and missions are the best source of uncommon and rare crest materials such as those dropped by both playable and non-playable characters that appear as boss units in missions.
  5. Always consider using Temple Blessings as needed.
