Part 11: The Top Hump (Levels 21-25)

Thank you for printing this page from www.SuperCheats.com. Remember to come back to check for updates to this guide and much more content for The Simpsons: Tapped Out

The Top of the Hump!

We have now reached the point where the center of the third Arc has appeared. That means that you should have advanced your Springfield to around Level 21 or 22 and you are barreling forward with a very expanded crew! Smells like Victory!

The fact that the major quest lines center around two of the recent Content expansions -- the Squidport and Krustyland Quest Lines -- simply adds to the challenge from here on -- particularly with respect to the hidden challenges that are noted at the start of the relative segments of this Section of the Guide below...

In addition there may still be lower-level quests that, for a variety of very good reasons, have simply not yet appeared on the radar.

A combination of the lack of certain key Buildings and/or Characters or quests explains how those lower level quests managed to hold out until now to appear, so it would be an idea to start ticking off the quests and the mission that serve as their prerequisites and get them done, right?

To kick things off in the right direction we will first focus our attention upon the now available Squidport quests, and we should constantly remember to be sure to pop into Krustyland each session in order to Update and complete any of the ongoing quests there, flag any new ones that may now be available, and collect the outstanding Tickets (of course)...

Another worthy note is that as you progress through the first three or four quests in Krustyland on this side of Level 21 you will be expanding the number of Springfield Characters who will appear in Krustyland (when they are not committed in Springfield that is), so hey, win-win!

The Taskbook

One of the issues that tends to draw attention once there are sufficient numbers of character-based quests to engage the slider function on it is the Task Book -- which is the Notebook at the bottom left-hand-side of the screen in the Level Window that provides access to the missions and quests that you have been told about but have yet to complete.

When you tap the notebook it opens and closes -- with Homer making the sing-song statements "Taskbook Open!" and Taskbook Closed!" each time you use it.

If you examine the Tasks that are stacked up in it they have their own priority system that is unrelated to the one being used by the player -- with Icons for each task focus.

While priorities differ from player-to-player, we can all agree that keeping that list as small as possible is the best strategic means for being sure that you have completed the various "Hub" missions and by so doing, have guaranteed that you have access to the primary quest lines as soon as possible.

It is possible however for you to end up missing an important quest due to not having some of the required conditions that would allow you to complete it or at the very least advance it to the point where you can understand why it is important...

The obvious icons to watch out for are the Squidport Icon (an image of the iconic Entrance Arch for Squidport), the Krustyland icon (an image of the iconic Entrance to Krustyland as well as some of the Attractions therein) -- each of those should be dealt with as soon as possible.

Other important icons include Marge Simpson, Comic Book Guy, Jasper, and Reverend Lovejoy -- important because you can be almost certain that any quests with them as the trigger almost certainly will end up being hub-quests and thus should be dealt with right away!

If you have been pursuing voluntary quest lines or placing Premium Buildings you may also be seeing icons for Lugash, Bumblebee Man, Miss Springfield, and Duff Man -- while these are not main quest Items they can be rewarding to complete, and so while you really do not need to make a special effort to stay on top of them, doing so probably will not hurt you in the long-term.

Staying on top of the Taskbook Quests is not just a good idea mind you, it can also be the only hint that the game gives you that you have missed a key hub-quest, and as such can serve as the guidance you need to catch up with that and so move your game forward.

Springfield Quests

This section documents the Springfield portion of the quests for this part of the Guide and Levels 21 thru 25. This includes the main quests as well as Gap Quests that divide the different sections of the primary and Squidport Quest Lines.

This adjusted organization structure will help you in quickly finding the information you need based upon the quest, but remember that our site fully indexes each Guide so you CAN do keyword and context-based searches as well.

They Have Internet on Computers Now?

The next gap-quest for Comic Book Guy is to build the Java Server -- Springfield's Net Cafe and Premium Grade Coffee House!

This is one of the "hub" actions since it placed a Building from which additional quest lines can interact. The need to complete the placement of hub Buildings is great but not as important as the need to move the primary quest lines along for the Expansion Content.

If the expenses involved here are any strain at all on your available funds, do not use Money you need to complete the Expansion process for the Boardwalk here. If that is threatened at all, it would be reasonable and even wise to contemplate taking an extra break from questing to rebuild your warchest so that you have the funds you will need.

Considering the large amount of downtime in the form of Building times for Buildings and completing each individual section of Boardwalk this is not supposed to be a problem for you - but if it is, you may want to examine what you have been spending Money on to see if there is another issue behind the Cash-flow problem?

They Have Internet on Computers Now? Pt. 1 -- Build the Java Server

Construction costs are $26,500 and this one was theoretically unlockable at Level 14 but it did not appear in our game until this phase in play and you might have the same experience...

They Have Internet on Computers Now? Pt. 2 -- Make Comic Book Guy Visit the Java Server

This has you have Comic Book Guy complete the following Task: Visit the Java Server (8h) $275 and 70 XP.

When you complete this quest you are rewarded with the traditional $100 and 10 XP.

It's A-Me. Luigi!

By now you should be used to one-off-quests that include placement of a Building and adding a new character to your crew - and this is no exception to that trend. In "It's-A-Me, Luigi!" you will need to be sure that you have sufficient clear space to place the building Luigi's Restaurant, and that you have the requisite $39,000 price to purchase it.

The construction phase for this Building is 24h (or x12 Donuts) and when the construction is complete, the following related actions will also be completed:

  • Half-Star in Gluttony Obtained - as this is a restaurant you should receive half-a-star or thereabouts on your Gluttony Meter (or a full star if it already has a half-star filled).

  • The Luigi Character -- Along with the new Income-producing Building you will also receive the character of Luigi, who is part of the Business Owners Group.

  • Complete the Business Owner Group -- if you have been following the Guide AND if you had the Donuts to purchase Lugash's Gym (which is a decent Money-maker) which is part of the Selma-and-Patty Content additions, you will now complete the Business Owner Group and receive the Bonus in XP for that.

  • New Tasks and Jobs Unlocked -- a number of Characters, including but not limited to Fat Tony, Dr. Hibbert, and Dr. Nick will have tasks that are associated with this business and Building, and those tasks will now unlock in their Tasks and Jobs List.

  • Hub-Status -- Luigi's Restaurant is a Quest Hub Building (it shares that effect with some other Buildings including the Police Station and Mpe's) with the effect that, once it is fully placed, it will trigger new quest lines.

It is natural for a player to prioritize spending Money on different structures, and you may have placed a higher priority for the Squidport and Krustyland advancement but, once you reach a point in the game where you have started to place hub structures like the Police Station and so on, you may wish to revise your priority lists and place Buildings like Luigi's at the top.

The reason for doing this will quickly become obvious as new quest lines begin to spawn in the game. We do not want to preach on the issue but it is worth saying again that the structure of the quests and missions system in Tapped Out are NOT Level-based (well they are in the sense that you must reach specific Levels in order to be able to DO the quests) but rather appear based on the related presence of other "hub" objects.

So even if you have reached Level 25 there may be Level 15 quests you have not been able to do specifically because you have not yet placed the hub Building (or Buildings plural) that trigger them. Just saying.

Each new building requires more money to build, but helps generate more money

As American as Apple Pie

The new quest line "As American as Apple Pie" will spawn after you move the Gluttony side of the Springfield quests forward, and you should see it pop up following the start of the Internet quest line and the placement of Luigi's.

As American as Apple Pie Pt. 1 -- Make Comic Book Guy Eat at Krusty Burger.

It is not as if you have not been doing this all along, but now you need to do it again for the record! The task "Eat at Krusty Burger (30m) $40 / 10 XP" is all that is required for the first part of this series, and completing this task results in the reward of $100 and 10 XP for your troubles (in addition to the task reward noted above).

As American as Apple Pie Pt. 2 -- Make Comic Book Guy Eat at Gulp 'N' Blow

The task "Eat at Gulp 'N' Blow (1h) $70 / 17 XP" is all that is required for the second part of this series, and completing this task results in the reward of $100 and 10 XP for your troubles (in addition to the task reward noted above).

As American as Apple Pie Pt. 3 -- Build Skip's Diner

This task requires you to build the structure Skip's Diner, which costs $35,500, requires Level 18 and the flagging of this quest, and pays $200 and 20 XP every 12 hours.

Completing this quest rewards you with $100 and 10 XP.

Crime Doesn't Pay Unless you Make it

This is a significant gap-quest that also happens to be a crucial prerequisite that, once completed, will move forward existing quest-lines and introduce additional ones later on in the game.

To complete this all that you are required to do is buy and build the Springfield Penitentiary -- which is itself a rather large structure that will require a significant chunk of real estate. That being the case, if you were looking for an excuse to buy a new section of Expansion land for the town of Springfield, this is it! Or it can be...

What we recommend is that you pick a piece of land along the west side of the northern boundary -- there should still be a few of the $14,000 sections to be had there, which will make this not as expensive as it might otherwise end up being.

If you have been using the northern edge of the map to place the less desirable structures (such as the Tire Fire, Alien Saucer crash site, Cletus' Farm, and the Nuke Plant for example) well then a prison will fit right in with the neighborhood! Heh.

To complete this quest you will likely want to do the following:

(1) Buy a cheap piece of Expansion land -- one of the $14K pieces along the northwest area of the map is a good choice.

(2) Clean the land up -- bear in mind that the nuclear waste and other debris has the potential to pay in Donuts and Cash --- so have Lisa or Homer get to it. Note that having a balance in your bank of above $100K can influence whether cleaning each pile pays only in cash or in Donuts - the more cash you have in your account, the more likely it is to get Donuts.

(3) Purchase and build the Springfield Penitentiary ($46,000 / 5,000 XP / 24h) on your newly cleared and cleaned land.

(4) Provide Municipal Services -- at the very least you will want to add in a road leading to the prison so that visitors have an easy way to get there -- and this may be a good time to place the Sleep-Eazy Motel (or move it nearby if you already placed it) to provide visitors with someplace to live while they visit their loved ones in prison!

If you are not viewing your Springfield with an eye towards success as a city planner -- that is to say you are jamming things in wherever they will fit, well, hey, now is a good time to re-think that Strategy! Making your Springfield look nice is not just a sop to the serious gamer.

Having the different types of Buildings distributed in a logical manner and providing services to each part of town that they need is thought to be a hidden element in Game Play stat accumulation. While we cannot prove it through quoting the wizards who make this game, it certainly would not surprise us if it turned out to be true... Just saying.

In any event, well done on getting this far and on placing this Building and completing this quest, since it is one of the hinge-quests that will rapidly expand your available quest lines. Good on ya!

Squidport Phase II

At this stage in what is one of the major quest lines in the expanded Tapped Out Universe, we have reached a point where we have the Boardwalk expanded to a reasonably large size, we have a good start on populating it with businesses and attractions, and we are ready to get serious about expanding its level-restricted bits.

Boardwalk Sections

As you can see from the previous stages in the quest line and those that follow, Building new Boardwalk Sections and placing them is going to become a major focus of your Tapped Out Life for quite a while, and considering the amount of time (and the expense) that this requires, chances are it will also rank itself in your personal top ten list of things you don't like about the game...

Squidport Pt. 11 -- Our task for Part 11 is to have at least sixteen (16) Boardwalk Sections, and complete the 24h task to build The Frying Dutchman.

The reward for this is the typical $100 and 10 XP, and having added a Building that will favorably add to the star count for our town.

After a rather lengthy conversation between the Sea Captain, Lisa, and Homer, the Sea Captain reveals that the next Building to be placed is not a Fried Dough Stand (which Homer would like) or an Antique Bookstore (that would be Lisa's Choice) but rather a new restaurant called The Frying Dutchman!

Before you can build and place The Frying Dutchman however you will need to ensure that you have placed sixteen (16) individual Boardwalk Sections. That really should not be a problem since we would have done that already just to get the Rainstick Store properly placed.

The Boardwalk Sections in place, once you build the restaurant -- which requires a minimum of Level 15, and the cost of $43,000 giving you 4,000 XP for your efforts -- it will produce $225 and 22 XP every sixteen hours.

In addition to completing this quest in the series and adding another Income-producing Building to your Springfield, The Frying Dutchman ALSO applies to the Gluttony State on the Conform-O-Meter and if your town is anything like ours (and I expect it is) that is one of the stats that you are deficient in.

The reason you are deficient in Gluttony while all of the other stats are well on their way to completion has to do with a number of factors, but the most obvious is population.

While the game does not come right out and say this in so many words, all of the housing that provides places for your peeps to live also factors in to and is related to the businesses you have built (where your peeps work and earn a living) as well as the Stores you have built (where your peeps buy stuff in order to be happier) and all of the other Buildings. This is all inter-connected is what we are saying.

That being the case, just Building a few Krustyburgers and a Gulp-N-Blow is not going to solve the problem of Gluttony! You not only need to have a number of restaurants but they need to be spread around your town so that they are easier to get to, and they need to include a variety of types (you cannot just build a bunch of burger joints and expect that will solve the problem -- that did not work in the town I live in in the real world and it will not work in Springfield either!).
