What Pokemon only evovle while holding something and what item do they have to hold?

The following Pokémon in Gold, Silver, and Crystal evolve with items attached:

Poliwhirl: King's Rock = Politoed
Slowpoke: King's Rock = Slowking
Onix: Metal Coat = Steelix
Seadra: Dragon Scale = Kingdra
Scyther: Metal Coat = Scizor
Porygon: Up-Grade = Porygon2

The last time you will encounter your rival on the run is in Mount Moon, but after that he will appear on Mondays and Wednesdays at Indigo Plateau, cut you off as you go to battle the League, and challenge you.

1. Scyther- make it hold a Metal Coat and then trade it. It will evolve to Scizor.

Slowpoke- make it hold a King's Rock, then trade it. It will evolve to Slowking.

Those are the only Pokemon who evolve while holding an item to evolve that I can think of. You will need to trade Pokemon who have to hold items to evolve.

2. The last time you fight your rival will not really be your last. I believe on certain days of the week (in-game), you will be able to battle your rival just before heading through the stairway to the Elite 4. He will appear, say some things, then you will battle him. I am, however, UNCERTAIN if you can face him before you fight the Elite 4, or if you can only afterwards.

Again, he appears only on certain days of the week. Please remember this. He will also appear an infinite number of times, but once you beat him, he will retire for the day and you will have to meet him another day to battle him again.

Oh, and you can fight your rival in front of the entrance to the Elite Four on certain days. Also, in Mt.Moon.

1. Poliwhirl evolves when being traded while holding a kings rock.
Slowpoke or Slowbro evolves when being traded using a kings rock.
Onix and scyther can be evolved into steelix and scizor while being traded while holding a metal coat so if you want them both duplicate a pokemon holding that item.
2. There is never a last time when you fight your rival. You fight him on Wednesday and Sunday when you are about to battle Will, the first pokemon league member.
